We stayed at at the Buccleuch Arms for 2 nights and had a pleasant experience at the Hotel. Its just been refurbished and is still under going refurbishment.

The rooms are clean, although they do feel like a bit more money could have been spent to make then that little bit more special.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was tastey and home made.

We were younger with the average being around 70.

If you are staying in the are its worth staying here although its not special enough to go out your way for a special trip just for this hotel.

  • Liked — It's location
  • Disliked — If they had just spent a little more on the refurbishment

We stayed at this hotel over the weekend of the 6th September on the occasion of our daughters wedding,
I realy don't know where to start as there is so much good to say about this hotel, but here goes.
The management of the hotel are superb, nothing is too much trouble, ' ask and you recieve with a smile ' must be their motto. Special mentions must go to Stephen and Irene who made all our planning arrangement go smoothly for the big day.
The bedrooms are newly refurbished and finished to a high standard. The hotel has still managed to retain it's old world charm and the lounge is very comfortable with a roaring fire on request if needed.
The bar is charming ,serving a huge selection of meals with lots of specials on their blackboard. The hotel pride themselves on serving local produce and this is reflected in the taste. Their chef [is truly amazing. While planning the choices of courses for our wedding meal it was so easy as she is so proffesional and were guided by her expertise. The local salmon and beef were truly delicious.
The new 'Salmon Room' is a beautiful function suite which was just finished prior to our wedding, what can I say, if you are looking for a venue for your wedding for up to about 80 guests then you can't beat it! It is a very elegant room with beautiful lighting, a great dance floor and a well appointed bar,., even the ladies and gents toilets were spectacular!
I have to say that the prices for drinks, rooms and food were very reasonable taking into consideration the high quality that we recieved, it was excellent value.
A wonderful weekend for all our guests.

I have just returned from a 2 night break at this hotel with my sister and my mother. Cannot praise it highly enough. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was wonderful and the wine offered in the restaurant was first class. The rooms were lovely too, beautifully decorated in a style as befits a small Scottish country inn of its design and age. An ideal place to stay to tour the border towns and the Northumberland coast. We all loved it so much we are planning to return next year same time to explore a bit further afield. Don't choose this hotel if you want a hectic nightlife. That's not what this gem is about. Choose it if you are looking for a relaxing stay. Well deserves its award of Scottish Inn of the Year.

if you dream of a few days away in a place with roaring log fires, lovely food and fine wine The Buccleuch Arms is the place to be.
The rooms are delightful very tastefully furnished ,and the beds are so comfortable.
The Managers were fantastic and took time to answer our questions and give us directions to places to visit.
All the staff were friendly and helpful and always ready with a smile.
It was heaven to relax in the cosy lounge with a pot of tea or a glass of wine beside the fire and chat to other travellers who were also enjoying the comforts of the Hotel.
What more could anyone ask for.We will be back soon for another visit and more adventures in the Borders.

Having recently stayed in the hotel I was extremely surprised and disapointed with the management. While most of the bar and receptionist staff were friendly the management were lacking in politeness, information about the food and his general greeting was in my opinion rude. When complaining to the manager we found him most unhelpful in explaining both the delay with our food and what he was going to do to improve it. We found him loud, extremely obnoxious, unimformative and made us feel uncomfortable as he was obviously offended we expressed our disapointment. Not what a manager should be.
As for the food the "good food served all day" motto on the signs are false advertisement to say the very least. The menu is ripped from your hand at 8:56 as mid-week service ends at 9!!! The menu was to me, Edinburgh prices with chip-shop quality. I ordered a fish dish from the specials board and my husband a steak. After waiting 25-30mins with no explanation and 2 other customers in the bar at this point when our food arrived we were famished to say the least. How disappointing a luke warm, over cooked, soggy vegetable, tasteless sauce and raw chips are at this point - not the "good" food we expected, infact not even passable. We asked the waiter to return the steak and were informed the female chef would cook another -but after such a wait and disapointment we decided not to bother. Perhaps we should have gone for the local chippy instead!!!!
