“brunch lunch”

we recently called stopped off at the buccleuch arms but was a tad dissapointed, not with the food I might add but the waitress, who seemed to be in a rush to take out order, my sister in law felt very harrassed by this, also as we were a party of six the man who may have been the manager very kindly put two tables together for us, but we had to ask for them to be cleaned as there was food on from the last customers, when we got our food it was real good no complaints at all, but when we were given toast and butter there was no side plates so had to use our serviettes to put our toast and butter on, the hotel was not particularly busy so no reason for the mistakes which made the difference between good and excellent,

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for taking the time to write about us on this site. Having discusse this with all concerned on the day, its very clear of the circumstances. We had in fact finished serving Brunch for the day and had decided that we could serve your table as it was apparent you were travelling through in need of some sustenance, this wasnt conveyed to you, so as not to cause concern, however, is the reason behind a perhaps hasty order being taken. The reason your tables were not spotlessly clean was because they had just been vacated.

In the time between 11.30am and 2.30pm that day we had served 170 Brunch meals, nobody was offered side plates as standard, anybody who asked, received, and the abbreviated menu of the day leads to a more simple service.

I think your comments are a little boring for a forum like this and if i had been in your shoes i would have just asked for side plates.

Every 1st and 2nd January we offer our extremely popular brunch menu, this year we served 350 in our small bar area, with nobody receiving a side plate, however, next year we will very much consider this.

I look forward to welcoming you again to the Buccleuch

“Super Location for Business meeting.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

Have attended two business meetings at The Buccleuch Arms over the last 2/3 weeks. Location is ideal right on the main A68 with very good car parking facilities. The main meeting / conference room "The Salmon Room" is very well appointed with seperate enterance and I also used the smaller meting room in the main hotel, situated just by the reception area. Staff meet and greet is very efficient and the catering facilities first class. For central Borders location and for business meetings Buccleuch Arms is a good choice of venue.

Room Tip: Salmon Room for larger numbers and small meeting room for max 8 to meet.

“Quaint Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

I have stayed at the Buccleugh Hotel a few times over the last 4 years and have never been disappointed. I found it initially because it was the only dog friendly hotel in the area and have kept returning even though our dog is no longer with us.

The staff are very friendly, the rooms are quaint, you get a good nights sleep, a great bar meal and outstanding breakfast. It is a quirky privately owned hotel which seems to improve each time I visit.

“Big improvement for vegetarians”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

We have eaten at the Buccleuch Arms recently, following our poor experience in trying to get some decent vegetarian food six months ago, and the change in menu has been very impressive. There are now always three choices on the main menu, plus we were told there are occasional veggie specials on the board. Add to this that the quality of food is significantly improved since our last visit and we can now wholeheartedly recommend the restaurant to vegetarians.

Still not a five star review as the tables are poky in the main bar and the staff, apart from one person, could be more cheerful, but still a good place overall.

Dear Local Lover Scotland,

Many thanks for your latest review which I have taken ages to reply to but seem this forum.

We do consider vegetarian items on the menu as very important and as I stated in previous correspondence where I challenged you to get in touch with me, you have yet to do so. I am, as such, disappointed because we struggle to come up with unique ideas and ones that can be repeated and maintain consistency. Do you like fish? Our new menu starts this friday night and were putting on a smoked haddock kedgeree risotto topped with a poached egg.

Anyway, thanks again and look forward to welcoming you here again.

“Pleasant but not a four star.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

We stopped at this hotel en route to the Lake District having previously had dinner here and thoroughly enjoyed both the cuisine and the attitude of the staff which was exemplary and most helpful. The food was equally good and the staff were equally helpful this time. However, having requested a quiet room we were non plussed to be given a room at the top of the stairs above the bar and reception (the hospitality is great so it's pretty noisy!). Their response was speedy but we were offered either a room at the back "but the kitchen fans will probably keep you awake" or a quirky little room along an attic corridor which was very small with a velux window out of which we could not see and a very dated bathroom and a television which didn't work. In fairness, when we brought a number of matters to the attention of staff the next morning they did agree to a reduction in the price but we had to ask for it. In lots of ways this is a charming hotel but it does not deserve a four star rating especially as not all the accommodation is anywhere near four star and consequently appears over priced.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, then phone the hotel in advance to make sure that is exactly what you are...
