“Great value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I have stayed in Tyndrum Lodge Hotel well over a dozen times and don't think it deserves one star.

Yes, the place is basic, there are lots of faults and it could do with a major refurbishment but where else can you get a room to yourself with breakfast for £20 per night. It costs this much to stay in a Youth Hostel in a dorm without breakfast!

Paddy's Bar is pretty-good, staff are friendly and the food is not too bad - shame their great pizzas are no longer on the menu though.

Hotel is dog-friendly, so dog can stay in your room and come into the bar with you.

The hotel is currently in Administration / For Sale, so don't expect too much frills.
Hopefully the hotel will be bought over and refurbished as it is in a great location - just don't change the bar too much as it is already good.

“Awful, don't stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

This is by far the worst place I've ever stayed. Avoid at all costs. Stay in a b and b.
If you have to stay here really don't expect much. Don't touch anything. You'll struggle to face the mouldy, leaking shower. Ridiculous the amount this 'hotel' is charging for the state of it. Surely it can afford a refurb! It holds West Highland Way walkers to ransom. Next time I'd try to get a b and b or camp rather than staying here. The owners should be embarrassed.
No words can describe how bad it is until you see it for yourself but I'd advise against it.

Room Tip: Don't choose any room in this hotel!

“Unbelievable!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

This was the lowest point of our journey on the West Highland Way!

Forget about the constant rain, which managed to run down my neck and into my boots! Forget about the sky, so grey that I felt I was travelling through the plains of Mordor!
Forget about the 25kg+ rucksack... forget about every ache and every pain!

The Tyndrum Lodge Hotel is the most disgusting shelter ever in the history of walking! I have stayed in Bothies which were cleaner, smelled better and more welcoming. Local people tell me that the company is in receivership and there have been hundreds of complaints made to the Tourist Board. While this "hotel" survives, I'm ashamed to be Scottish. I have no more words...

Room Tip: Avoid this "hotel"... Take a tent and enjoy the luxury of your sleeping bag!

“Only if you are homeless”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

I stayed at the Tyndrum Lodge Hotel for four nights & that was enough.
Good points. Bed Linen Clean. WC Clean. Staff Friendly & helpful. Cheap. Kettle worked.
Bad points. Room small. Bed very small. Carpet thread bare. Mould on window frame. I had to turn the shower on 15 minutes before I took a shower & then the pressure was almost none existent, same for the wash basin if you wanted hot water. No remote for TV & it changed channels by itself. Wardrobe & vanity unit very shabby. Decoration even more shabby & looked as though it had last been decorated in the 60's. Be careful where you park as you may have to wade through 3 inches of water to get to your car. Food very very expensive, & the chef had obviously watched a cookery programme & tried to emulate their presentation methods, FAILED. Concentrate of cooking the food before trying anything fancy. All in all this is a one star hotel at best. Only use it if you are desperate. This hotel is a very bad advert for Scotland. Could be made into a nice hotel with investment.

Room Tip: Book in somewhere else, or sleep in your car.

“Worst hotel I have ever stayed in”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

I took my walking boots off at the front door but then realised that this wasn't necessary as my boots appeared to be cleaner than the carpets in the hotel (including the one on our room). Had to ring the bell three times to check in. This could've been down to the loud rock n roll music at the front door or the fact that there only seemed to be one member of staff for the whole hotel although she was working hard. I'm finding it hard to write a review of the room as I've tried to wipe it from my memory! I had to clean the sink area as it hadn't been cleaned properly. For some reason, there was half of a coat-hanger on the floor! When the curtains were closed at night you could easily have imagined that the room was in one of the worst tower blocks in the East end of any city. This place badly needs a visit from The Hotel Inspector. Breakfast was also inedible.
