“location saves the day”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

This place does exactly what it says on the tin - you get a bed and you get breakfast. What you don't get is a particularly warm welcome.

It might be because the owners have had a busy year, or that they don't really like having people staying in their home - but of all the places we stayed on out Scotland trip this one had the coolest welcome.

Our single rooms shared a bathroom, which was fine, but we definately felt that we were an inconvenience in their home.

As this B&B is 2 miles away from the nearest restaurant, we had to pick up food in Tyndrum on our way through (cycling) to eat after a shower. The landlady made us feel like we were asking for the earth to eat it in her dining room.

There was a great place to put our bikes tho - the chapel next door. We have since joked that our bikes had a nicer stay than we did!

“A real home from home, superb accomodation.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

A lovely old Manse house, close to the West Highland Way, very large ensuite bedroom, comfortable bed and furnishings. Excellent breakfast, homemade jams and marmalades, eggs from their own hens. Very good night's sleep, great shower, good toiletries provided. Very friendly family atmosphere, extremely helpful when booking, would happily recommend Strathfillan House to anyone travelling the West Highland Way or in the Tyndrum area.

“Great hospitality!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

Lovely big double room, fantastic shower in en-suite, great hospitality much appreciated on a chilly, wet July night! Fabulous Scottish breakfast. WIFI appreciated.

Bridge of Orchy Hotel worth a visit for dinner - beautiful views, good food.

We'll be back for the car's 25th birthday, if not before!

“Loveliest B&B on the West Highland Way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2010

My boyfriend and I walked the West Highland Way, staying at various B&Bs along the way, and this was easily one of the very nicest (and the standard was generally pretty high at all of them). Really lovely, very amenable, owners (it's a couple of miles from Tyndrum, and they will pick you up from the WHW and return you there to re-start the next day). The room we stayed in (double with gorgeous en-suite shower room) was such a luxury at the end of a hot day's walking - lovely decor - almost felt like moving into the owners' own room - in a good way!

They gave us one of the best breakfasts we had on the entire 9-day walk, and a fab packed lunch (great value at only £4). Would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to stay in the Tyndrum area for whatever reason. Great value, high quality accommodation.

“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2009

Having phoned around virtually everywhere in the area and finding all were full, the lovely owner of Erwich House put us in touch with Strathfillan House just up the road. This turned out to be a great find! Diane, the host, couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming.

The house itself is in a beautiful part of Scotland, with views of the imposing mountains from the bedrooms. The en-suite (definitely worth paying the bit extra) double room was gorgeous , more classy hotel than B&B...chic country style with plenty of space and a great shower. I think there's also free Wi-Fi in the rooms. All in all, we had a lovely night's sleep, very peaceful indeed.

The village down the road has a good shop, petrol station and a restaurant/pub. The Bridge of Orchy hotel was well worth the extra few miles though, the food was lovely.

Finally, the breakfast did in no way disappoint. The Glamorgan sausages (is there a Scottish equivalent??) were delicious, a very thoughtful touch for us veggies!

We can't wait to go back to Scotland and will definitely be making a detour to stay at Strathfillan House...thanks Diane for your wonderful hospitality!
