“Poor hotel policy (or staff) spoils stay”

stayed 1 night on 10th feb and shown to very comfortable room with ensuite bathroom with door that does not close (room 7)! I was going to open the complementary bottle of wine (i thought) provided as part of groupon deal when we realised it was a sparkling "perry". as my wife cannot drink "sparkling" i thought i would ask a member of staff if they could change it for a standard bottle of white wine - the staff member (sarah) refused to change the bottle stating that was the one for the groupon deal - when i suggested that this was perry and not wine, she still refused stating that it was specified on the voucher. i confirmed that was not my recollection and was dissapointed that the staff were unable to swap a bottle of perry for a bottle of wine - wine was stated on the voucher. Clearly the member of staff had not been to customer relationship training -what a missed opportunity for the hotel, but unfortunately one that spoiled our weekend!

Room Tip: room 7 faces car park and has ensuite door that does not close. the automatic light goes off when i...

Thank you for your review. I am pleased that you found your bedroom comfortable and thank you for bringing the problem with the en-suite door to our attention. This has now been rectified. A bottle of Chateaux Chaumet Demi Sec was included in the Groupon deal and unfortunately this was not transferable. Thank you again for your comments as we do value feedback.

“Great rooms, great food, great atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We took a punt and bought a Groupon deal to stay for one night B&B on 11/02/12. The hotel benefits from being right on Loch Lomond and at the starting point for climbing Ben Lomond. It's also ideal if you are walking the West Highland Way. This area is naturally beautiful and if you get good weather it's a great base for exploring. We were given room 8 with a view of the loch. The room itself was modern, very clean and had everything we needed. The bathroom had no bath but did have a very modern shower etc. We didn't take our dog but they are welcome in the hotel.
We had dinner in the bar - I had the steak (cooked perfectly) and Karen had Balmoral chicken. I couldn't manage a sweet (Karen had creme brulee). Bar
has a real fire and also sky sports etc. Good selection of beers, wines and spirits (St Mungo lager especially good). All of the staff we met were friendly (esp Kirsty!!) I would recommend the hotel to anyone and we will definitely be back,

Room Tip: higher the better to take advantage of the views

“HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE SHAMBOLIC MANAGEMENT & BEHAVIOUR OF STAFF AT ROWARDENNAN HOTEL..”

Having stayed at Rowardennan on previous occassion's and enjoyed our stay under the management of David Couper. However, since the new ownership of the Allison family I would definitely not give The Rowardennan Hotel any ratings purely on the basis that it is not deserving of any! My family and I spent Christmas 2011 (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and departed on Boxing Day - advertised as the Christmas Special) at this very poorly managed establishment (party of 5 adults and 1 child). Where shall I start; Steven the manager who was rude and abrupt and stood at the bar on Christmas Eve and became totally intoxicated which was not pleasant for patrons to witness. On Christmas night once again Steven the manager was stood at the bar downing shots and ended up totally wrecked once again in front of patrons and children and fell over flat on his face (absolute disgrace!). All other staff had attitude and appeared to be familiar with this behaviour from their manager and often spoke ill of him to us which we found disturbing, as I for one would not work for an establishment under these conditions. Service was poor in regards to waiting on food being served and when we eventually received our food it was cold and of poor standards. My Christmas dinner was revolting - I ordered from the menu Pork Fillet with black pudding stuffing which turned out to be Belly Pork not cooked as it should be (Belly Pork that is...) the amount of fat on the meat was vile and the brussel sprouts were still frozen. The buffet on Christmas night was all the left overs from Christmas Dinner and re-heated. When checking out on Boxing Day the bill was paid in full with cash and the staff could not wait to get us out the door due to my complaint over the Belly Pork being portrayed as Pork Fillet. Steven the manager became very offensive and rude and made me feel intimidated. Three weeks later we received our Mastercard Statement which showed deductions of £198.00 taken from the account after the bill was paid in full with cash. The Mastercard was to secure the booking ONLY! I would not trust these people in this establishment and intend to follow up this deduction with my bank. Would I ever go back to Rowardennan Hotel...NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!! I SUGGEST OTHER B&B / HOTELS NEAR LOCH LOMOND.....

Room Tip: Rooms had recently been re-decorated - only decent thing I could possibly say about Rowardennan and...

To the poster of “HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE SHAMBOLIC... “(February 7, 2012)

It is with great concern that I reply to the comments from the mentioned review on this website. Unfortunately this is a classic example of taking a tool used by many people to honestly rate establishments like our hotel and abusing the medium to carry out a personal vendetta over a disputed charge you, the guest received with regards to smoking in your rooms.
Sadly, this review is seen to me to be a direct result from a phone call I received on 07/02/12 with regards to you, our former guest querying a charge from ourselves on your credit card statement which was of the amount of £198. The reason for the charge was that all 3 of the rooms occupied by your party of 5 adults and 1 child had been smoked in, this in fact occurred on each consecutive night of the stay despite repeated warnings from myself and clearly visible signs and literature displayed around the hotel warning smoking was not permitted by law in this hotel or indeed any hotel in country. Moreover, when I did approach yourselves your party acknowledged the smoking in the rooms in disregard for company policy with the comment of “come on it’s Christmas “ I am sure it is clear that the law cannot be ignored simply due to the time of year that it may be. This is especially poignant in this industry as it is still a busy time for us and we had new guests of the hotel moving into your rooms the day of your checkout which we had to allocate different rooms as to allow the room to “air out” and for a more thorough service of the room to be conducted.
It is also taken with great offense comments that the conduct of the members of my staff and I on the days in question were anything other than professional. This is in light of the fact that a female from your group was found to be trespassing in our staff accommodation late into the night by our duty manager and when asked to leave subjected our duty manager to an aggressive and abusive tirade that left her in fear for her safety and extremely distressed. And additionally all members of staff working during this groups time at our hotel were witness to your crude and unsettling behaviour and unfortunately so were most of the other guests staying with us who reported such behaviour to any member of staff available to hear their comments.
I feel the other comments made in the review lack any foundation of credibility, with regards to frozen food served or myself drunk and abusive at the bar, so I feel it is not even needed to respond.
To reiterate from earlier I find it saddening that this website, which has served so many people well(business owners and guests alike), has been abused with the intension to cause as much disruption personally and professionally. And so we feel that the remarks made are of such a defamatory and unfound nature that we shall be contacting our solicitors in due course.

This letter is written without prejudice and cannot be used in a court of law.

Unless we see a retraction and an apology from the person who posted this review within 7 days we will instruct our lawyers to issue a liable action against them.
Regards
Steven Allison

spent 1 night here at the end of january, beautiful location but would not advise driving the road from balmaha to rowardennon after dark ! shown to a beautiful modern room with spectacular views and every comfort. bar was busy and food was exellent. only downside was the time of year and how cold it was in the bar even with the fire burning. little snug bar in between was not open yet as I think they'd been closed for a bit. would definately return but maybe next time in warmer climates and would love to bring our dog as looked like they were well catered for. breakfast next morning was also good with plenty to eat and drink and friendly staff.

the pairman family would like to say a big thank you to sarah, danny, martain, ben, yvonne and kirsty for making our stay a pleasant relaxing weekend. we enjoyed everything about the hotel and its surroundings.on arrival sarah was there to greet us and made a lot of fuss over our dogs which we loved. we were given a nice cosy room near the front door which i loved as easy access for a smoke on the grounds, our bathroom bulb went out and seemed to be a problem getn fixed, so sarah moved us to an upstairs room and OMG what a room it was the lomond suite with kingsize bed and what a view looking out onto the water and watching the hens run around (eggs were great fried, scrambled). my parents were across the landing and their room was very nice. we thought having the dogs with us could be a problem to other guests in the hotel but this was not the case everyone was so friendly. we ate in the clansman bar/resturant and it was great. i recomend the fish, steak n ale pie and the ribeye steak mmmmmm the plates were massive i couldnt finish it all. the breakfast fantastic we paid extra to have it delivered to our rooms at 9am and thats exactly when we got it all fresh with toast, eggs, bacon.sausages, blackpuding, potatoe scone fried tomatoes and fresh orange, then we went a long walk whhich was nice and fresh and the clear waters was lovely the dogs had a ball. on the sat night sarah and martain were doing the karaoke and quiz which we didnt expect at this time of the year, but they were great and the other guests all joined in and the staff dont rush you as on to 1am. we were there for 2 nights and our rooms were still cleaned by kirsty on the second day. on the sunday night we sat in the bothy resturant for dinner and drinks with the log fire on so cosy, we brought the dogs in with us when having more drinks, we were actually the only ones there after 10pm but ben the barman kept serving us until we had enough. thanks ben. we didnt want to come home, we have stayed in hotels all over scotland with the dogs and this has been the best of all. we were shown the luxury lodges by another very friendly member of staff, and given a price list which we will consider in staying in with all the family sometime in the year. we were expecting snow at the weekend so we were prepared by taking food essentials and candles and we would have made our own entertainent with the staff of course lol. as to the previous review of hotel called faulty towers don't think they guests were at the same hotel we were at !!!!!!!!!!

again thanks to sarah and all the staff for making our stay one we wont forget and we will return as we plan to do the walk of ben lomond. from marian, stevie, anna and arthur and the dogs harley and jack

Room Tip: room number 1 was excellent, slightly dearer as the lomond suite but worth it for the size and the v...
