“Not exactly customer focused is it?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2009

This place could be a gold mine - the setting is fantastic and there aren't a great abundance of pubs nearby. However. The barmaid asked me if Guinness was 'a beer' or not, fairly simple stuff for a barmaid we would have thought, and just about everything we ordered off the menu was unavailable. The manageress (or the senior member of staff on duty, not too sure) was very unhelpful, and it was quite telling that when we passed a few sarcastic remarks about the service; almost every customer either laughed or joined in unison.....

“It is going to be rebuilt we are told”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2009

VEry disapointed in the room which had not been properly cleaned, sash window had been broken for sime months and although the Hotel is in a good position it is totally overpriced for the poor state of the accomodation. We understand that it is hoped to demolish the rear of the building and to build new accomodation. Food only available in the bar however breakfast is served in a nicely apointed dining room.
Once the building has been upgraded then we are sure that the courtious professional staff should be able to build a much better reputation.

“Absolutely NOT HopeLUSS”

Crikey, I'm startng to sound like an apologist for the most appalling dives on the planet but the Colquhoun Arms was fine. Dare I say it's creaky floor boards and antique TV sets gave it ... um, character. OK, it's not the Ritz and it wasn't built yesterday, or even the day before, for that matter.

Here's the story. We'd been motoring aimlessly around Scotland for a few days and simply stopping when we'd had enough driving and trying to find somewhere to stay. Thus we stumbled into Luss and, in turn into the Colquhoun Arms. We were greetd by a charmingly friendly young man who checked us in and steered us to the comfortable bar within. Our romm was a "curiosity" in as much as had a bedroom, separate TV or living room and bathroom. The terms quaint and comfortable come to mind. The breakfast we had downstairs was great, as indeed was the evening meal we enjoyed there.

And, as one of the other contributors pointed out, it's about half the price of the "lodge" on the hillside a couple of miles up the road.

the rooms are smell, I am surprised that they are not closed down. we had a bar lunch which was excellent, only to be spoiled by the most ignorant, un frieindly manageress, no smiles , no thank you's. our friends met us and we asked if their dog could come in..Answer was just NO! howevere we discovered an area in the back outside where we could drink and take the dog,, the rain started and we asked "the manageress" if she could put the brolly up, answer...No key, lost it" that was it. Please do not go here if you want pleasant service

“very basic and nearly 3 times cheaper than lodge on the loch, but has potential”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2009

stayed for one night as we attended a wedding on nearby lodge on the loch, and found it to be very basic and worn down, the room had been cleaned prior to arrival but not very well, think stevie wonder could have done a better job. bed was not too bad and toilet cleanish but strange smell in it, think it was just old. but but the whole room and stairs landing area needs refurbished asap as i think it has great potential to be a lovely place to go. on the plus side hmm.... it was only for one night cos we were at a function the whole day anyway, breakfast was surprisingly nice and the breakfast room was bright and pleasant. the bar area looking inviting too. it was only a 10-15min walk to lodge on the loch and 5 min to luss church so location was very good, however its a very dark road to use for walking, sorry staggering back to at night. im not too fussy but i cudn,t recommend it to a friend but i would go back if i really really had to, shame.
