“Outstanding”

Wow! What a fabulous place. We stayed on a Friday night and upgraded to a Courtyard room - well worth the extra. The rooms are fantastic with lots of nice touches. The freestanding bath and steam room/shower were excellent as was the wood burning fire in front of the rug.
Arriving in early Feb, you are never quite sure what the weather will bring but we were lucky to have a beautiful sunny day with snow on the hills and the lochs a little frozen - perfect for a stroll along the road.
There is a lovely little bar for a drink when you return and a snug room with comfy chairs to have a read and a coffee with some exquisite Carrot Cake.
Dinner was wonderful - all cooked to perfection and well worth it.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful - there is no stuffyness here and the relaxed atmospshere is just perfect for the setting. We were well looked after for our whole stay - I just wish it had been longer.

If you have the opportunity - do not hesitate and go and experience this place for yourself. You will not be disspaointed.

Room Tip: Upgrade if you can - it's worth it!

“Not quite what we had been told.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We went to Monachyle Mhor in March 2011. We were recommended it by many people and ended up going for a few nights for our honeymoon as our original plans had to change due to health reasons. It is certainly not the cheapest place to stay but we were happy to be upgraded on our arrival. The room was not to my taste but this is just personal taste (enough to put me off going back though.)

Our main problems were with the food. We have stayed at Ardeonnaig many times under its previous owner where the food was always amazing and therefore expected similar of Monachyle Mhor. Nearly every course we had was too salty, we had overcooked scallops!!! And then undercooked poached eggs!!! Not what we would expect from this sort of establishment. To top it all off unless the good waiter was on, service was extrmemely slow. We were left sitting with empty plates for a lengthy time.

I am normally happy to give a place like this another go but with how much it costs and knowing there is better out there not very far away, we certainly will not be rushing back. I can only hope from the more recent reviews that these problems have been dealt with.

“Wonderful stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Stayed here between Christmas and New Year. Unfortunately the weather was poor so did not see the setting in all it's splendour. Hotel was clean, staff friendly & polite. More importantly the food was delicious. We stayed in a room in the main building, so only had to climb the stairs after dinner. Will be back again.

Room Tip: We stayed in a cheaper room in the main building. Convenient if weather is wet as you only have to c...

“A highland gem among the glens with a real feeling of home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We had the privilege of staying here over new year on a 3 night package and were bowled over by this little gem of a place, Tom runs a fabulous operation his food is excellent and his team also went out of their way to make us feel at home.
The drive up to the hotel is always a sheer pleasure even through snow and upon arrival we are greeted with a warm welcome and shown into the snug and then the pampering begins as we while away the hours beside a roaring log fire.

“We Adored Monachyle Mhor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

What a wonderful place. We arrived early and had lunch in the small bar area, a cozy and warm start to our time at the hotel as it was one of the rainiest days of our trip. After exploring the area that afternoon, we hung out in the living room area and were able to access the wifi, read and basically relax with tea. After getting ready it was to be champagne in the living room and then brought round to the dining room for a most memorable supper. The room we had was sort of shabby chic with an excellent bathroom. The next mornings breakfast was absolutely stellar and unfortunately after that we were on our way as they were closing for the rest of January. We would have definitely stayed longer if we could have. Special note, the staff was first rate. Everyone we dealt with was very young and friendly, funny and warm. Top notch!
