The attitude of the barman when we arrived was appalling. He made it clear we weren't welcome, and that we shouldn't expect to eat at the pub, even though that wasn't our intention and hadn't said so. The room was cramped, uncomfortable, basic and there was no hot water. There was a tv on in the room next to ours, but when we asked where our tv was, we were fobbed off and told with a smirk that they could not get reception for it in that area. We had booked three days in this place, and wished we hadn't. One morning's breakfast was superb, smoked salmon, porridge, obviously a skillfull cook. The other two morning's breakfasts were abysmal, greasy, parsimonious, and extremely badly cooked. Nobody would speak to us or pass the time of day, and they kept us waiting for our food with no explanation or apology. A most disheartening stay, we were pleased to leave the sour, oppressive, grudging, atmosphere of that awful place.
