“A demoralising experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

The attitude of the barman when we arrived was appalling. He made it clear we weren't welcome, and that we shouldn't expect to eat at the pub, even though that wasn't our intention and hadn't said so. The room was cramped, uncomfortable, basic and there was no hot water. There was a tv on in the room next to ours, but when we asked where our tv was, we were fobbed off and told with a smirk that they could not get reception for it in that area. We had booked three days in this place, and wished we hadn't. One morning's breakfast was superb, smoked salmon, porridge, obviously a skillfull cook. The other two morning's breakfasts were abysmal, greasy, parsimonious, and extremely badly cooked. Nobody would speak to us or pass the time of day, and they kept us waiting for our food with no explanation or apology. A most disheartening stay, we were pleased to leave the sour, oppressive, grudging, atmosphere of that awful place.

Room Tip: Don't go

“Great wee place.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

I stayed here for a night with my fiance and we had a great time. The owner was lovely and literally couldn't do enough to help. Most of the staff were foreign but were also great.

They have a nice wee rustic bar with a good selection of beers:

Carlsberg, Stella, Best and various real ales that were lovely.

We had a meal there and it was fantastic, local pan fried duck with black pudding and apples.

The rooms were nice, we had a view over the falls which was nice. Only thing that annoyed me was that there wasn't a proper shower, it was just a mixer tap on the bath with a shower head that you had to hold.

All in all, I wouldn't say the room was worth £100 but the service and feel about the place was worth it.

Full Scottish breakfast included the next day was excellent and helped soak up some of the ale.

I would ask the management to PLEASE bin the horrible doll/dummy that is dressed like an old woman that sits next to the fire in the bar, it is very tacky, the place would look much better without it.

I will be back at some point hopefully.

“A wonderful location doesn't mean a wonderful hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011 via mobile

First the good-the view from our room (number 5) is wonderful, you could sit all day and watch the water tumbling over the falls, the breakfast is really filling and freshly made (particularly the porridge), the staff were all very pleasant and chatty. Next the bad-our room had a frightingly sloping floor, it was never meant to be a double room (the bed was shoved into a corner so that we could only get into it from one side!), there was no room for a bedside table so you have to switch off the main overhead light before getting back into bed, the tv screen is so small that you can hardly see it (and you can only see it from the bed), the walls and floor of the bathroom are tiled in cold slate and there is no heating in it. Definitely not worth £99 for one night (and that was a special offer!). Overall I would recommend staying elsewhere in Killin and just going here for a drink and to watch the beautiful falls.

“A trip to remember”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

Where do I begin? Excellent location, outstanding food and staff who are willing to go that extra mile. On requesting an iron, a member of staff took my partner's shirt, ironed it and delivered it to our room because it was 'easier than us doing it ourselves'!. Room was gorgeous with great view over the falls. Perfect position for hillwalking and Munro bagging. A drink by the fire is hard to beat after a day on the hills. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the falls is worth early booking.
