First of all, I have to say the service is just fine. We've had a happy gentleman showing us around who has been quite helpful all night long. The only thing that went wrong is basically everything else...
We arrived by car, a group of 8 and were being shown to our rooms. We couldn't wait to get a warm shower, a nice meal at the restaurant upstairs and jump in the promising hot-tub.
Rooms of 4 are just so small. You'd have more space in a train. We felt a bit scammed for £20. Impossible to get changed in there, beds are not comfy, bedrooms are just under the main room which means you hear steps and voices from the early morning. I didn't mind the room being cold cause i like it that way but some people might not.
We went upstairs for dinner and had to wait a while. Great set-up, very comfy, original location. The menu looked so promising and I was waiting for fresh, local products cooked deliciously. My understanding is that no matter how well-intentioned cooks are, their skills don't match what is on offer. The beef was of questionable quality, my friend who likes spicy food couldn't finish her chicken (too spicy) and my other friend almost cried when he got his pasta bolognese (the simplest dish in the book). I would rather have a more simple menu with things that a hillwalker could enjoy after a strenuous day. My friend got to pay for only half of her chicken which was a nice gesture from the owner.
After dinner, we wanted to hang out in the main room but they close it at 11pm! So basically it's go to your bed or...stay outside the hotel. This is a serious flaw. Same for the hot-tub, Internet, board games, TV. Nothing after 11pm. I went to bed pissed off... on my birthday!
Didn't try the breakfast (£5)so can't comment on that. Sanitaries are ok, the floor is a bit dirty but it's fine if you have flip-flops. Only very positive thing is the presence of earplugs in the bedroom. That was very helpful and allowed me to spend a quiet night.
Wouldn't go back. Hotel a bit out the way, roads are bad. Should be ok for West Highland Way hikers as it's close to the path. Shame there is no self-catering faciliites though. For £25-30, I'd take a B&B instead.

Hi reviewer, thanks for writing.
First up let me clarify that we are a provider of hostel style shared accommodation catering primarily for walkers on the West Highland Way; we do not profess to provide hotel level of service. We tried staying open later in 2009 but this led to more complaints about noise and disturbance. Most of our customers retire relatively early to rest after a hard day on the trail. We feel that closing at 11pm is beneficial to the vast majority of our customers. Remember that you are in shared accommodation which requires a level of consideration for other guests.
Our quad rooms are neat but this is reflected in the price at £19 per person. Hotel & B/B accommodation starts at around £37 pounds and upwards. Also there are manually operated heaters in all the rooms.
As for your dinner I am sorry you had to wait awhile; we do recognise that walkers are a hungry bunch and need to be fed quickly. We'll work harder at this. We get consistently excellent comments about our food; any problems or complaints about food, when alerted, are dealt with promptly to the satisfaction of the customer.
Ps Our broadband internet connection (+WIFI) is available to all our customers at no cost!
Best wishes
