“Lovely location - shame about the rooms!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The hotel is excellently located - we had a sea view twin and the room was very tired but clean (bathrooms look to have been recently done up!). The floors creaked and to be frank the walls were that thin that we could hear the conversation in the next room (an American gentleman calling home at MIDNIGHT kept us awake on both nights - it was so clear we could even here his child on the phone so I can only assume it was on speaker phone!)

Yes it has gone from being an Innkeepers lodge to a Travelodge BUT Travelodge have done nothing save stick up a few new signs.

We got the room for £25.50 per night (room only) - this was great value BUT Travelodge do need to dig into their pockets and get it "renovated" one corridor was closed at the ceiling had come in!!!

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have great views of the Clyde rooms at the back, however, do overlook look a car park...

“This is a Travelodge, attached to the Commodore Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We booked here for 3 nights whilst visiting friends in Helensburgh. We had a great river/sea view from our room. The room was comfortable and clean. It was also bigger than I expected for a Travelodge. You can't complain about the rooms as Travelodge is the cheaper of this type of chain. It was functional, and as I said comfortable and clean. The bathroom was a bit small but again functional and clean. Parts of the decor and paintwork look a bit tired but it was not run down. The hotel is attached to the Commodore, which is part of the Vintage Inns chain. Food was excellent; typical gastro-pub stuff. Staff were pleasant, fun and knowledgeable. The decor of the pub itself is a bit twee and artificial with the beams etc, but there were plenty of chairs, stools and tables of varying sizes and heights. We had breakfast here too. The menu choice was small but the food was good; although a little pricey compared to cafe prices and choice. The pub had a varied choice of cask beers. There is also a coffee lounge type part of the hotel which was a pleasant place to spend part of the afternoon (sheltering from the wind and rain!) without being in the pub/restaurant bit. I would definately eat here again. And I would stay here again largely because of the convenience to the town.

Room Tip: Ask for a river/sea view.

“Wish all Travelodges were like this”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

This used to be an Innkeepers Lodge and before that it was The Commodore, an upmarket hotel. The restaurant and bar are run by Vintage Inns and are still called The Commodore but the rooms have been sold on to Travelodge. Room decor is still Innkeepers Lodge not, the blue and white Travelodge colours but the room had been freshly painted and a new shower room fitted. Both room and shower room were spotlessly clean. We had a great room with a lovely sea view. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
We had a meal in the Commodore restaurant - Sunday roast £9.95 for two courses. Staff were again excellent. Breakfast is now available between 7 and 10am. Full breakfast £7.95. smoked salmon and scrambled eggs same price and a roll and sausage or bacon for £3.95. Because it is run as a separate business from the Travelodge, meals must be paid as in any other normal restaurant. The flow of the lodge and restaurant makes it feel very much like a hotel, you walk from one to the other indoors. A large free car park is available at the rear of the hotel. We booked months in advance and paid £19. Would definitely return even if we had to pay a little more .

Room Tip: Ask for a front facing room if you require a double. Family rooms are at the rear.

“Needs a refurb!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Now a Travelodge. Accomodation wise, rooms tired and need of refurb. Travelled with family......no family rooms with a view of the Clyde, we got the car park and bottle banks! No hot breakfast, instead a goodie bag..........Don't do it! Processed rubbish and not worth the money, I'm glad ours didn't get delivered and I got a refund. Bar end is good, with helpful staff and the food is fine. You can get a Bacon sandwhich there in the morning intsead of the Travelodge fare.

It's a perfectly fine as a stop over/base.............if just a little tired!

“Helensburgh great but go to a B&B!”

Perfectly positioned on the seafront but very basic and, unless you get a special deal, you would be better in one of the towns nice B&B's.
