“Families Welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

We had the pleasure of staying at the Hawthorns last weekend for two nights in the family room. We were welcomed by Alan and made to feel comfortable from the outset, not easy when you are fraught from having three young children who are fed up with being couped up in a car. The room was very comfortable with DVDs provided to entertain the children and hot chocolate which we could make up in the room. They even provided us with board games which we could play in the sitting room.
Breakfast was excellent with Corrine listening to what the children wanted to eat and provided exactly what they asked for, whilst my husband and I tucked into the full works - delicious!
Their knowledge of the local area was excellent especially as we didn't know the area and they were able to give us some great suggestions on things to see and do.
Would thoroughly recommend staying here especially if you have family as it is so hard to accommodate 2 adults and 3 children in one room. We will definitely return!

Thank you for your review, it is very much appreciated. Our guests should always feel welcome and relaxed. We try to be a home form home and everyone appreciates the little extras like the DVDs, board games, lounge and garden. It is very difficult finding family rooms and we are delighted to have three. Glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you all again. Best regards, Corinne & Alan.

“THEY EVEN MEND POLES”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Our first night on the West Highland Way,we were wet when we arrived, the owner Alan met and welcomed us,all our wet clothes were immediately in the drying room.

Our rooms were excellent, with tea and coffee facilities which was the norm for everywhere we stayed.plus we had a bath which was excellent for aching muscles and there was a very comfortable lounge, with tv and library.

Alan was very helpful in terms of places to eat ,and our route out of Drymen to rejoin the WHW.he even mended the walking poles of a friend!!

Breakfast was very good, only minor negative scrambled eggs were not the best choice

Not everybody has a drying room, but anyone who has walked in/visited Scotland will know just how important it is! Definitely a very welcome sight for our guests and big enough to ensure that everyone's clothes, boots, rucksacks (and tents!) are dry the next morning. And fixing walking poles - all just part of the service m'am! Many thanks for your review. Hope to see you again. Alan.

“Excellent accommodation. Pristine rooms and a hearty welcome.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

We stayed for three nights last week . The accommodation was clean and relaxing. The proprietors were welcoming and informative, their knowledge and insights into both the local, and much further areas informed our visit to make it more enjoyable . My partner Karen, said this was the cleanest place she had ever stayed in . Would wholeheartedly recommend this bed and breakfast. The breakfast was to die for!

Thank you for your review - when we say clean, we mean CLEAN! It should be the minimum requirement for all accommodation providers and we certainly take our time to ensure that we clean The Hawthorns from top to bottom every day. We have a reputation for our breakfasts now too! We always prepare a fresh fruit salad and we cook every breakfast to order to ensure it is as fresh as possible. And when you rave about it - it makes it all worthwhile. Thank you. Corinne & Alan.

“Absolutely faultless - can't wait to go back”

We have just got home after a one night stay at The Hawthorns in Room 4 - a family room that slept four people. The room was bright, and spotless, with a wonderful bathroom with a big corner bath and separate shower. We had a flat screen television (with a choice of dvd's to choose from had we had the time) and a super selection of in-room teas, coffee and hot chocolate - and great biscuits!
The beds were without doubt, the most comfortable we had slept in when staying away from home (my youngest son said it was more comfy than his bed at home!) and we all had a great nights sleep.
The breakfast the next morning was delightful - fresh fruit salad, a range of fresh yoghurts, cereals and porridge. Three of my family are on gluten free diets, and we were delighted when Corrine (the owner) produced a wonderful Scottish cooked breakfast for us all, complete with delicious gluten-free sausages and gluten-free toast.
Our only regret was not being able to stay more than one night - however, we are already planning our next visit to Drymen (great walks and very friendly people), and we will defintely be staying at The Hawthorns.

Many thanks for your review - we can't ask better than 'faultless'! It's very difficult to find a bed that is comfortable for everyone, but we seem to have achieved it. We try and do what we say on the tin - provide excellent Bed and Breakfast and it is highly rewarding when our guests enjoy it so much. Look forward to seeing you all again. Best wishes, Corinne & Alan.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. We aim to be a home from home (albeit a very tidy one!) where everyone feels relaxed. One comment we keep getting is how peaceful and calm The Hawthorns is and everyone seems to have a great night's sleep. Many thanks for your review and hope to see you again soon. Corinne & Alan.
