“Disappointing”

Just spent a couple of nights at this hotel after booking one night with a groupon deal we decided to book another night for our break. We were booked in for the "seasonal menu" meal at night and what a disppointment it was. Two of our party ordered the lamb and were given one slice of roast lamb for our main course. The men in the party were still hungry even after three courses! The rooms were fine but the leisure suite's jacuzzi wasn't working when we were there. Drinks in the bar were very small measures after several drinks we all felt completely sober. We decided to go to the hotel up the road called The Winnock the next night where we had a lovely meal and drinks that were a decent measure. Dont think I would return to this hotel.

“What atmosphere!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012 via mobile

Staying in this hotel was such a pleasurable experience...the room was spacious and clean, the three-course evening meal was spectacular, and breakfast in bed was a treat! The history of the hotel was quite interesting and the location (near Loch Lomond) was lovely.

“Excellent Sunday Night Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We had driven through Drymen a few years ago and passed a hotel on the way back from Balmaha. We had a long weekend off and spent some time in Glasgow and Helensburgh and thought it would be good to spend our last night (sunday) in that hotel in Drymen. Not really thinking too much about it we booked a DB&B deal for the Buchanan Arms. On arrival we realised it was not the hotel we were thinking about and had intended to go to The Winnock, our fault for not researching the booking properly!
After realising our stupidity we parked the car and were promptly checked in and shown where our room was, told of meal times and how to access the gym and pool. The room was well appointed and the king size bed was very comfortable. The room was rather hot but a quick twist of the thermostat soon sorted that. The only little niggle i had was the toilet sat closely to the angled wall so you couldn't sit straight on, could be a problem for someone who is infirm.
We made use of the pool, sauna and steam room although swimming was difficult due to the number of people in the pool but again a very minor niggle.
We had a couple of drinks in the bar before dinner and there seemed to be a staff shortage as we had to wait a wee while to be served but as someone who has worked in the catering industry it is understandable on a Sunday night in January.
Reading other reviews i found it difficult to find any rude staff and everyone that we met said hello and smiled. Maybe if the moaning guests were a little more pleasant themselves they would get the same in return.
Dinner was well cooked and nicely presented and the choice of standard menu was good even smoked salmon was available. I took the biscuits and cheese at £1 extra however the portion was huge and could have easily fed two! Breakfast in the morning with a plentiful buffet could not be faulted.
We did take a stroll up to The Winnock after dinner although the bar area was more homely than the Buchanan Arms the overall feel of the place was rather run down and there seemed to be lots of guests on an all inclusive deal which meant a constant parade to the bar.
We agreed that although we originally made the wrong choice we had ended up at the better hotel and will hopefully return in the near future.

“Ceilidh overnight.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

This overnight was a family occassion, gifted to us at Christmas, we all had a lovely time both at the ceilidh and at the hotel.

When you first drive up, you think it's a small hotel but it's like a rabbit warren inside, this old hotel has been extended and extended, just goes to show it's popularity. Very warm and friendly welcome, the staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Our rooms were all standard doubles and 1 triple room, and had everything you would need for a stay. They have a decent sized gym and pool, the spa was fully booked on both Saturday and Sunday, so this hotel and spa is doing something right.

We were part of party night, can I just say this was very well organised for the number of people, I only got to see the menu on the night, everything was fine but unfortunately I can't have any dairy so I gave up on the desserts but the waitress was having none of this and asked what I could eat, I asked for a sorbet and without further ado or messing around, when the desserts came that is what I got. Fantastic!

Breakfast was good and plentiful, I wondered if I would manage to get a table for our group in the morning but again I needn't have worried as our table was set up, again just these little things make for a good stay.

Well done.

One tip I would offier, if you are planning to visit and are bringing either a disabled or infirm guest, I would suggest you speak to them when booking as if you where wheel chair bound it could be a bit tricky for you to get to rooms.

I can recommend this hotel and I'm sure we will be back in the future.

Room Tip: Please speak to reception if you are coming with a disabled or infirm guest as there are no lifts an...
