On the face of it this should be a very good hotel, excellent location just off the main route, close to the Rob Roy Trail and Balquhidder. I cannot comment on the cottages, as we only went into the hotel. When we arrived there was a young lad on reception who though pleasant enough was not very professional. As we went in to the reception area, there was a general run-down air and a slight smell of damp. Our room looked quite pretty (it is the one on the website with a 4-poster bed and flowery curtains) and was very clean, but on closer inspection the bed and hangings felt a bit damp, this was probably because of no extractor fan in the bathroom, meaning that having a shower filled the bedroom with steam. The bathroom was very clean, apart from the window frames, which were a bit black and mouldy with age. We did not eat there in the evening, having been warned by a local that it was not as good as it used to be, and the cooked breakfast (though plentiful) was served with little grace onto cold plates. The Rob Roy Bar looks as though it was fitted out in the 70's and has not been updated since. However, they have a good selection of whiskies and some excellent local beer. Overpriced for what they offer.
