“Needs some serious updating.”

On the face of it this should be a very good hotel, excellent location just off the main route, close to the Rob Roy Trail and Balquhidder. I cannot comment on the cottages, as we only went into the hotel. When we arrived there was a young lad on reception who though pleasant enough was not very professional. As we went in to the reception area, there was a general run-down air and a slight smell of damp. Our room looked quite pretty (it is the one on the website with a 4-poster bed and flowery curtains) and was very clean, but on closer inspection the bed and hangings felt a bit damp, this was probably because of no extractor fan in the bathroom, meaning that having a shower filled the bedroom with steam. The bathroom was very clean, apart from the window frames, which were a bit black and mouldy with age. We did not eat there in the evening, having been warned by a local that it was not as good as it used to be, and the cooked breakfast (though plentiful) was served with little grace onto cold plates. The Rob Roy Bar looks as though it was fitted out in the 70's and has not been updated since. However, they have a good selection of whiskies and some excellent local beer. Overpriced for what they offer.

“Good Food - Good Quality of Sleep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2011

Despite the fact the hotel itself is a little dated in terms of decor, it was clean and extremely comfortable. My room was spacious, airy and benefitted from 2 opening windows! The bathroom was functional and a reasonable size. Bedding was very clean and in good order, towels a little worn but clean and fresh nonetheless.

Unfortunately I missed breakfast next morning as I had to leave early but they very kindly left some cold buffet plus full instructions on how to use their coffee machine. I could not have asked for more.

I had supper in the restaurant and it was very nice indeed. I would say this hotel is pitched more towards the tourist than the business traveller (lack of Wi Fi) but I over looked this fact due to the very good quality of sleep. I would use this hotel again and would recomend it to persons in this area. Although spotless it may benefit from a little up-dating although this does add to it's charm.

Very pleasant owner, bar staff and reception staff. A very warm welcome and very helpful people.

“Not a great hotel - dated, and lacking in atmosphere.”

Stayed one night here. Not a very friendly warm welcome. Asked for something to eat at 20.50 and was told they couldn't serve us anything, not even a sandwich or toast. We didn't even wait for breakfast. No one at reception to say goodbye at 8.15am. Dreadful room. TV didn't work properly. Bathroom was a tiny box, with a shower that squeaked and a broken shower door. Dreadful dated decor - needs a renovation. Nothing luxurious about it - you will be disappointed unless you just need a bed for the night. Probably a good location for walkers though. Beware - this is NOT the Kings House Hotel in Glencoe.

This is a great Scottish pub, rooms were a bit old-fashioned, but the bed was comfortable and everything worked. The meals in the Rob Roy Bar were fantastic. Good spot

“Clean and comfortable, friendly staff, convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2010

Small hotel conveniently located near the A84 with ample parking. Warm, friendly welcome. Room was clean and comfortable. Good, no-nonsense food in friendly bar with well kept beer and wide choice of whisky. Good breakfast in dining room with view over countryside. An excellent place to stay when touring local area or passing through en-route to or returning from the north of Scotland
