Munro's exhibits a Tripadvisor 'Best Rothesay B&B' certificate in the hall. It's as well to bear in mind that the level achieved is in comparison to other Rothesay B&B and not an indication of meeting a national standard.
Munro's is situated up a hill on the fringe of Rothesay and it is a fair hike to/from the town centre if you do not have transport or take the bus. Those with any mobility limitations may find the final climb to the B&B more than a bit wearing.
We were met with a warm welcome from the Host and even warmer welcome from the log fire in the sitting room, before being shown our room and the working of the facilities fully explained.
The room itself was clean, warm and in good repair, if lacking in any real character or style. However, if all you need is somewhere clean and comfortable to lay your head what more could you want? Well, if I'm going to find fault, a properly closing door to the bathroom, which seemed to be something of a 'work in progress' would help.
Breakfast, taken in the conservatory overlooking the bay, was ample, well cooked and delivered a wide choice. Were the eggs from the chickens that were seen in the garden?
Rothesay itself is a shadow of its former self having been developed for a holiday market that has long ago moved on. Beware of Wednesday when most of the shops and restaurants close. We didn't know this until it came time to find something to eat and it took some searching to find something decent. This took the form of 'Ghillies', the downstairs bistro of the Victoria Hotel. The meal, prices and service were extremely good and I have heard that the Victoria's restaurant is equally good but if the town really wants to attract custom then it's missing a trick.
