“Best Carvery i've every had”

On the way from Oban to Glasgow we stopped on a very wet September afternoon at the the a Taynuilt Hotel for lunch. It was an unexpected delight. The carvery was exceptionally good value and very tasty, with a large variety of fresh vegetables, crispy roast potatos, and a choise of pork, beef or turkey. Three courses at that time was being offered at £10.95. if i lived nearer I would go there for my Christmas dinner.

“CARVERY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

After an outing with the Oban and Lochgilphead Angling Clubs, we went to the Taynuilt Hotel
for a one course carvery meal. It was very welcome after a day on the hill lochs, staff were very attentive and made us feel at home. The carvery had three meats and a variety of vegetables all fresh and plentiful

“Enjoyed the stay. Lovely region of Scotland.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011 via mobile

Great value. Old coaching inn with atmosphere. We stayed 3 nights and ate there on the Saturday night - meal was excellent. Although they were understaffed they coped well and were friendly throughout. The breakfasts were especially good. The sink in the bathroom was really too small, but otherwise no real complaints and certainly good value for money.

“Oh dear!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2011

The hotel sells itself "to meet the needs of the modern visitor while maintaining the unique character and heritage of a traditional coaching inn." Character and heritage my eye! The first warning hits you as you approach the door - notices stuck up everywhere. There's no reception - you have to check in at the bar and if it's busy, as when we arrived, you have to wait until there's a lull between pullng pints. I had asked for a quiet room but got one at the front with traffic roaring by and a bizarre plumbing system which meant rumbling for a good five minutes every time you flushed the loo. We had booked a table in the restaurant but discovered there isn't actually a restaurant but tables in the bar and an overflow area in the room where breakfast is set out, where a space was found for us. I assume the aim of the owners is to replicate somewhere like a Harvester - maybe I;m insulitng Harvester but it was distinctly downmarket and full of families eating mass-produced food. It was getting towards the end of the rush when we sat down (at 7.30!) and the staff had obviously had enough as they were turning people away saying they were fully booked although tables were getting emptied.
I guess it's horses for courses. Some people would think it was fine. We couldn't get away quickly enough,

“A great weekend had by all.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2011

I stayed at this hotel with three of my friends and we couldnt fault it. although the building is old i think it was good value for the money,The rooms were clean and warm, just what you look for and the bar and lounge were both cosy and pleasing, the food was great, big portions of freshly cooked, great value too. my friend ordered a plate of nachos for himself but there was enough on the plate for all of us to share,we all had steaks which were all cooked to perfection. The staff were all only to glad to help and a few went out of their way to make our stay most enjoyable, Thank you for that. i have no complaints about this hotel and would really recommend you try it. like some other review said its not the Hilton but we didnt pay Hilton prices, great value for the money we paid and i would not have any problems booking this hotel again.
