“Visit to restaurant”

We have just returned from a visit to the restaurant which we were hoping was good as we are staying just around the corner. The signs on the road said food available all day, we arrived at 5pm and all that was available was sandwiches and cookies so we decided to stay until the restaurant opened at 6pm. The young waitress was very friendly and kept checking if we wanted anything. We ordered a prawn platter each for starter and were presented with icy cold prawns, limp brown around the edges salad and cold damp bread. Our main course was rump steak, I had asked for mine medium and my husband had asked for well done. My steak was very thick, and so raw inside the meat had not even warmed, it was cold and very bloody. My husbands steak was slightly better but still very bloody, both were served with a serving of semi-raw chips. We arrived freezing cold and left even colder, there was no heating on and the cold offerings made us even colder. We didnt complain as I just wanted to get out as quickly as possible and we shall not be returning.

“a little tired...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Apparently quite a fine hotel in its heyday...now a little tired and old-fashioned. Decent room with good views but four-poster bed on the small side and not worth the extra ££. The shower was a trickle of either cold or burning hot water. The heating kept breaking down, so nowhere to dry our sodden clothes. Very average food in the restaurant. Pleasant staff.

“Two visits”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

I have stayed at this hotel twice - 2010 and 2011. In August of 2011 family members were with me, including a disabled teen. The staff, lead by Leona Bell, were very good, very helpful. Breakfast was good. The rooms were clean, spacious, good tub and shower. Good wi-fi.

Views from the lounge area and dining area are superb. I love the west Sutherland area - the drive to Kinlochbervie along Loch Assynt is stunning.

Dinners were good - one excellent. Reasonable prices. This year I forgot a pair of slacks. When I arrived home Leona bell had already mailed them to me!

“Most spacious room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

We were greeted courteously, and directed to our room, which was very comfortable, and much larger than is customary.
Our breakfasts were extremely good.
The hotel is very dog-friendly, and we had a most relaxing stay.
It was inexpensive, and very good value.
We ate our evening meals just along the road, at the old Schoolhouse.

Room Tip: We asked for, and were allocated, a room with a good view.

“Underwhelming!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011 via mobile

Revisiting an old holiday haunt from my childhood, we spent a night with my parents at the kinlochbervie hotel. My parents memories were of a rather splendid lounge and dining room, however today it is rather tired and underwhelming.
On arrival we received a rather cold reception, adequate but certainly not warm and no real friendly chat.
Our rooms had all amenities including fully stocked tea and coffee tray, hairdryer, small flat screen tv and beautiful views.
The decor is quite dated, my parents room had a 4 poster bed with net curtains around it!!
The bathroom had a lovely rain shower over the chipped bath which was great but near impossible to control temperature, this was the same for both our rooms.
Radiators needed bled, they only heated to about an inch from the bottom, thankfully it wasn't too cold so wasn't too much of a problem.
The public areas are definitely worn and dated and could do with decoration with exception of the breakfast room which was lovely. The windows throughout were filthy.
Our evening meal was mixed, the seafood platter starter was wonderful but the mussels were a disappointment, small and served with sliced pan loaf bread! Three of us had the rump steak, two were sent back as they were cold and overall not a great piece of meat, very tough and tasteless. The other main was scampi and it was delicious.
All in all the location is superb but don't have high expectations of the hotel, without the location I doubt many would go at all.
