“Is one of the best memories of our trip to Skye”

This is for the Pub, the Dining room, and the Rooms.

Arriving on a rainy day, mid-afternoon from Portree. We were early since we canceled a couple possible walking hikes on the North end of Skye. The Inn has a cozy little "bistro" off on the right side of the building. Here, we settled in with a couple of rather entertaining locals and had a couple of bar food nibbles for lunch -- carrot and coriander soup, a bowl of mussels in white wine and cream, and a couple fish cakes.

The barkeep informed us that our room was indeed ready and we could check in anytime, but we had a few more pints and a few more laughs with the local caracters before retiring upstairs around 1530..

On our way up, I checked out the menu... mmm... langostines! So I instantly made a dinner reservation. Overhearing me mentioning langostines, the Innkeeper quickly apologized and said, "We haven't had them for days! The weather has been so rough, the fisherman have not been able to go out!". But she added, "check back after 5PM, when the boat comes in, maybe they will have some." We then went upstairs to sleep off a pint or two.

Down to the dining room and the Innkeeper whispered, "We have your langostines!, they just came in." Well I was happy. The Mate ordered Salmon grilled with herbs, and we split another bowl of mussels as a starter. Langostines -- let me tell you, I was shocked--- 16 of these spiny creatures appeared, looking at me with those black beady eyes, on my plate! I doubt any could be fresher or better cooked. I sucked every bit of goodness out of them -- from the claws to the heads. I have never had better before or since! They lived and died for a good cause... me! The mate said the salmon was outstanding and loved the garden fresh veggie sides.

The room? Ask for a front harbor-view room. ours was spotlessly clean, comfy with very nice hot shower. Well above average by Scotland standards. Don't think some of the other reviewers were in the same place. Maybe some cannot appreciate Scottish humor. Barkeep/Innkeeper was fun!

“Not worth the price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

Having been met by the grumpy receiptionst the room was small (very small) and the bathroom tiny. Had dinner in the bar .............all frozen mass produced and small portions. The grumpy recepitionst became a bar maid and was just as grumpy. What I really didn't like was the plastic cover on the mattress

“Would go back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2010

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay, clean comfortable bedroom, friendly staff and good home-made meals. Don't understand why anyone would want crispy duck in the Western Isles known for their seafood and fish along with renowned Scottish beef.

“More to endure than enjoy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

We stayed at this Inn for 1 night after being let down with our previous booking and therefore had no choice of rooms and took the only one available. The room was clean and had all the facilities we needed. The rear room was not great and backed onto a small wood making the room dark with no view. This inn is in need of brightening up and making friendlier.
As with previous reviews we thought that the restaurant was overpriced for the food. The’ Early Sitting’, when there was a limited menu, was still very much overpriced for the quality and quantity of the meals.

“Huge prices, tiny portions”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

Stayed here for one night due to all better-rated hotels being full! My colleague immediately had a minor dispute with the receptionist, who was insistent that he give her his card details (for extras only- the rooms were paid for). Pleasant enough rooms, with Sky tv (no viewing card, so free channels only), en-suite bathroom with instant shower. Paper-thin walls meant a disturbed night's sleep. Went to the bar for an excellent pint of Guinness. Small selection of draft beer, and a few nice bottled ones. Constant annoying tv in bar (pet hate!). Through to the restaurant, which is small, and not very welcoming, with constant 'Scottish muzac'. The portions were small, and very few main courses were less than £17, although the fish and chips (with mushy peas. Why?) was fresh and quite tasty. So it's just another tourist trap. Avoid.
