“Just Awful!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2011

We had the misfortune of staying in this Inn recently. Thankfully it was only for one night. What I take was the owner, as she never actually introduced herself, was unpleasant and unprofessional and could do with a crash course in civility not to mention basic customer service.
Lumpy mattress, mouldy smelling towels and the shower didn't work properly!!!
I definitely would not recommend this Inn to anyone and would like to point out that in our experience this is not a child friendly environment.

Room Tip: keep driving to the next hotel!

Stayed there for one night as we were catching ferry and so were stuck , pre booked , lady who greeted us was not welcoming , asked if they did bar meals as we were tired after the drive . apparently only the a la carte was available as that's all they did . We paid £14.50 per person for fish (oil sodden tasteless and de frosted ) frozen peas and chips . Breakfast was included except if you wanted a cooked breakfast it was an extra £5.00 per person . For 5 of us to stay one night have a crap meal and a continental breakfast came to £300 . The only good thing was the waiting staff who were young kids but at least smiled .

“Very bad!”

We have travelled through all Skye and big part of Scotland, but nowhere I experienced unprofessional staff like in this place. Uig was our last village to stay and unfortunatelly we decided to go to eat at Ferry INN. During our dinner waiting staff startet set up for breakfast when dining room was half full, they even did not try to be quiet. I asked one waitress: "Are you always do like that? she said yes because we have to go home" it was 19.45! Maybe they know anything about job in hospitality. Chef plates food - main courses without garnish! 17.95 price for seafood pie and 13.95 for chicken and both of them no garnish and taste like bar food. I like bar food but no for this price. Every bar serves food with garnish and charge less than 10.00 pounds for main. When people go to a restaurant and pay almost 18 pounds for main course food should be good, sometimes excellent and service should be more professional no totally amateurs. Avoid this place!!!

Arrived at 19.29hrs on our first night in Skye to be told by a very unfriendly bar lady that we were too late to eat in the bar!!-she then said we could have something from the take away menu(really did not see the logic in this) very expensive for what it was,if you can avoid please try & avoid.

“Is one of the best memories of our trip to Skye”

This is for the Pub, the Dining room, and the Rooms.

Arriving on a rainy day, mid-afternoon from Portree. We were early since we canceled a couple possible walking hikes on the North end of Skye. The Inn has a cozy little "bistro" off on the right side of the building. Here, we settled in with a couple of rather entertaining locals and had a couple of bar food nibbles for lunch -- carrot and coriander soup, a bowl of mussels in white wine and cream, and a couple fish cakes.

The barkeep informed us that our room was indeed ready and we could check in anytime, but we had a few more pints and a few more laughs with the local caracters before retiring upstairs around 1530..

On our way up, I checked out the menu... mmm... langostines! So I instantly made a dinner reservation. Overhearing me mentioning langostines, the Innkeeper quickly apologized and said, "We haven't had them for days! The weather has been so rough, the fisherman have not been able to go out!". But she added, "check back after 5PM, when the boat comes in, maybe they will have some." We then went upstairs to sleep off a pint or two.

Down to the dining room and the Innkeeper whispered, "We have your langostines!, they just came in." Well I was happy. The Mate ordered Salmon grilled with herbs, and we split another bowl of mussels as a starter. Langostines -- let me tell you, I was shocked--- 16 of these spiny creatures appeared, looking at me with those black beady eyes, on my plate! I doubt any could be fresher or better cooked. I sucked every bit of goodness out of them -- from the claws to the heads. I have never had better before or since! They lived and died for a good cause... me! The mate said the salmon was outstanding and loved the garden fresh veggie sides.

The room? Ask for a front harbor-view room. ours was spotlessly clean, comfy with very nice hot shower. Well above average by Scotland standards. Don't think some of the other reviewers were in the same place. Maybe some cannot appreciate Scottish humor. Barkeep/Innkeeper was fun!
