“Fantastic experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

Stayed at this friendly b&b whilst on a touring holiday of the isle of Skye and loch ness and I was definitely not disappointed. I was recommended this b&b by a friend who praised the owners for their warm hospitality and outstanding knowledge of the local area and I couldn't agree more. Greg and Sue helped us to plan our itinerary to make the most out of our visit, without this I feel we would have missed out on some very valuable memories. The b&b is set in a stunning location on the north east of the island and the home cooked full English breakfasts are worth the trip alone! We will definitely be going back.

“Superb host , superb B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

Greg and Sue have been really welcoming and made our stay and trip in Staffin very comfortable and relaxing. We stayed two nights - 25th and 26th sept. Greg&Sue would definitely go the extra mile to make guests feel comfortable and happy. Though it was extremely windy at night, Greg reassured us that we'll be safe. :) Every little detail has been kindly taken care of. The room was simply lovely, very spacious - an en-suite. Immaculate and very cosy wtih a breath-taking view of the mountains. We had pleasant breakfast, very well prepared. Amazing view from the lounge also. Greg, the mountain man :) has kindly sat down with us and planned our trip around Staffin and surrounding regions , we followed his instructions and we explored the secrets of Staffin - amazing! In the evening , Greg and Sue even warmed our dinner which we got from Portree(a town with plenty of shops), just 17mins drive. We humbly thank you both for making our stay memorable. It was extraordinary.Hope the Himalaya trip goes all fine. Please do drop us an email whenever you will be in London or India. We highly recommend the Achtalean - for atleast 2 nights in Staffin.
Kindest Regards,
Sanjay.

“A great find on Skye.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

We stayed at the Achtalean for one night in August. Originally we were disappointed not to be able to book a reservation at one of the B&Bs closer to the main town of Portree, but it turned out to be our good luck. The Achtalean is a bit of a drive beyond Portree up a sometimes one-lane road that you share with very few other cars and the occasional sheep. Sue and Greg Walters, transplants from England living their dream on Skye, are delightful innkeepers with a spotless, comfortable and inviting modern home. In addition to being an ace breakfast cook (and porridge specialist), Greg is an avid and experienced mountaineer who leads expeditions on Skye. We were there too short a time to take a trip with him, but it would definitely be worth staying an extra day to do so. We especially appreciated that the Walters’ contacted us when they found a Bluetooth charger that we left behind, and then mailed it to our next destination. And once you’re in that neighborhood, take advantage of your proximity to The Glenview Restaurant. We enjoyed a truly outstanding dinner, inventive, locally sourced and beautifully presented, and punctuated by a flock of sheep running through the front yard just beyond the window where we sat!

“Lovely place and lovely hosts....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

I stayed in Achtalean for a whole week and it alway felt like being home. Greg and Sue gave me a very warm welcome. My room was very comfortable, quiet and clean. The ensuite bathroom with powerful shower was very nice after a long day walking in the beautiful landscape of the Trotternish peninsula. The breakfast was delicious and I especially loved Greg's porridge and the fresh fruit. Eating breakfast while looking out to Staffin Bay was just wonderful. Greg is an experienced mountaineer and he gave me lots of advice about hillwalking and where to find the most wonderful places on Skye. I can very warmly recommend Greg as a mountain guide because he and Sue took me up my first munro. That was definitely the highlight of my holiday in Skye! Hope to be back soon!

“Great location, great breakfast, great people.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

A perfect jumping-off spot for anyone planning to see the Trotternish area. Sue and Greg are wonderful hosts and made us feel right at home. The place is spotless. Delicious breakfasts. Greg is a qualified mountaineer and gave us great advice for our walks on the Storr and the Quiraing, complete with maps. Highly recommended.
