“Expensive... but stunning views!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

I stayed here for 2 nights in September, I found it very expensive for what you got in terms of the room size & facilities. The hotel also seemed under staffed, more noticeably during breakfast. I would probably not stay here again, unless the prices were decreased. The plus points was the fantastic whisky choice in the bar next door, and the stunning views around the hotel.

“Sitting on the fence”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

Sitting on the fence on this one. We had to keep reminding ourselves that this hotel was on Skye and was in the middle of no where. But saying that that is no excuse to charge stupid sums of money for the basics; £10 each for breakfast which is on par with a travel lodge is well slightly stupid especially when you clock really basic range of food and drink ( supermarket own makes).

Staff here are really nice which is why we have rated this as 3 instead of 2, in fact if the staff would not of been like they were this actually would have been a 1. The room was a really decent size with a decent view but some TLC needs to be given to them. Did not like the fact that the bed sheets were clean but dig a little deeper and you will find one of those thermal covers which was covered in someones hair and other dirt. Bathroom was knackered. The one thing and yeh it sounds petty was the fact that this one room cost over £100 quid a night and they did not even stock you back up on the 'free' water, shower gel or soap. We were 'tight' at this place and that is realy the only way how to stay here as you would end up spending a fortune spending the night at a hotel what seriously does not deserve the money you would spend.

“Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

I stayed In the Hotel for Four days, It was very warm and cosy, The staff were very kind and Helpful. The Meals were good, But the Menu needed a little bit added to it as There was not much to choose from. The Breakfast were Great It's always nice to wake up to something so nice.
It is set In a beautiful Location, The views are Outstanding and For walkers this is a great place to stay. It is not far from a little town Portree which is nice for a little walk around and some great shops too.
All In all everything was good, I would certainly come back next year but In the warmer months Because walking in the cold isn't the best. I certainly recommend it for all you keen walkers out there.

“Great location, but rooms leave much to be desired”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

This historic hotel is in a beautiful location, but the rooms are in dire need of updating and renovations. In spite of it being called a "hotel", there is no one to help you with your luggage! The bar area is kind of fun, but the restaurant area has no charm (but a great view.) The food is OK.

My room was small, and it felt sort of dingy. No attempt at any sort of decor whatsoever. The bedding was not of high quality -- flat pillow, bedding that felt sort of old, and no top sheet. The bathroom was of a nice size, and I was looking forward to taking a bath in the large, modern tub UNTIL the toilet started bubbling up, and then brown water began bubbling up in the bathtub as well. Even though this was fixed while I was out during the day, I didn't trust taking a bath that evening!

I hope one day to be able to return to the Isle of Skye (so beautiful); however, I would NOT stay here again.

Room Tip: Be careful to close your door; they don't automatically shut.

“Fit for purpose - I would visit again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Firstly, I dont think this hotel claims to be top notch and it isn't but it does fill a void and is very comfortable. I stayed here for a couple of nights recently in the self catering lodge. The place was clean, warm and comfortable and the caretakers of the lodge were very helpful, friendly people.
I also ate at the bar/restaurant for 2 nights, and it is as it says a "bar/restaurant", the meals were basic but tastey, there is a good selection of local and other beers and the biggest selection of whisky I have ever seen.
This place is perfect for its location - it is isolated but ideally situated for walkers in the Cuillin range, it serves good hearty meals and has comfortable accommodation which is all any walker can ask for.
I would not read too much into the negative comments on here, you get what you pay for in places like this.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this place.
