“Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

I stayed In the Hotel for Four days, It was very warm and cosy, The staff were very kind and Helpful. The Meals were good, But the Menu needed a little bit added to it as There was not much to choose from. The Breakfast were Great It's always nice to wake up to something so nice.
It is set In a beautiful Location, The views are Outstanding and For walkers this is a great place to stay. It is not far from a little town Portree which is nice for a little walk around and some great shops too.
All In all everything was good, I would certainly come back next year but In the warmer months Because walking in the cold isn't the best. I certainly recommend it for all you keen walkers out there.

“Great location, but rooms leave much to be desired”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

This historic hotel is in a beautiful location, but the rooms are in dire need of updating and renovations. In spite of it being called a "hotel", there is no one to help you with your luggage! The bar area is kind of fun, but the restaurant area has no charm (but a great view.) The food is OK.

My room was small, and it felt sort of dingy. No attempt at any sort of decor whatsoever. The bedding was not of high quality -- flat pillow, bedding that felt sort of old, and no top sheet. The bathroom was of a nice size, and I was looking forward to taking a bath in the large, modern tub UNTIL the toilet started bubbling up, and then brown water began bubbling up in the bathtub as well. Even though this was fixed while I was out during the day, I didn't trust taking a bath that evening!

I hope one day to be able to return to the Isle of Skye (so beautiful); however, I would NOT stay here again.

Room Tip: Be careful to close your door; they don't automatically shut.

“Fit for purpose - I would visit again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Firstly, I dont think this hotel claims to be top notch and it isn't but it does fill a void and is very comfortable. I stayed here for a couple of nights recently in the self catering lodge. The place was clean, warm and comfortable and the caretakers of the lodge were very helpful, friendly people.
I also ate at the bar/restaurant for 2 nights, and it is as it says a "bar/restaurant", the meals were basic but tastey, there is a good selection of local and other beers and the biggest selection of whisky I have ever seen.
This place is perfect for its location - it is isolated but ideally situated for walkers in the Cuillin range, it serves good hearty meals and has comfortable accommodation which is all any walker can ask for.
I would not read too much into the negative comments on here, you get what you pay for in places like this.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this place.

“Just another dire Wetherspoons.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

The Sligachen Hotel is situated in what must be the most beautiful location in the British Isles, at the foot of the Cuillin range. It's a pity that the restaurant / bar just doesn't live up to expectation. It has no "atmosphere", it was cold, the bar staff could do with cracking a smile occasionally and the food was bland to say the least. This could be a Wetherspoons in any place in Britain........totally characterless and pretty expensive for basic food.
We were two very disappointed climbers.
It's a real shame as so much more could be made of such a place in an amazing setting
We only ate in the Seumas bar and can't speak for the rest of the hotel which I hope is amazing .

“Outstanding service, food ranged in quality but mostly good...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

We had eaten here in the bar back in 2006 on our first trip to Skye and remembered how much we enjoyed the cosy friendly feel of the place. This time we ate here again - (we did not stay here) - we booked a table in the restaurant and had a lovely table by the window. There were three of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal, although some aspects of the meal were fabulous (the starter pate, scallops and black pudding, soup etc.) whilst others were very 'pub' (the pie, the frozen onion rings). We did feel that for pub food it was a little pricey but overall we were happy.

The one thing that really was outstanding here was the service. We arrived quite early and the woman on reception could not do enough to make us feel at home, getting us a drink and making us comfortable in the bar. The server we had in the dining room ( a foreign young lady) was also fabulous, and nothing was too much trouble - she was very genuine and we really enjoyed the whole experience.

My dad who was with us was so impressed with the place and the location that he is planning to come back to Skye and stay here.
