We spent a long weekend in the Toravaig and its sister hotel, the Duisdale, paying £1000+ in total for the trip and were shocked at our experience in the hotel. When we arrived at the Toravaig we were told that the room we had booked and paid a deposit for had been given to someone else who had arrived early and that we would have a smaller room with no view instead (we found this strange, we have never arrived a day early in a hotel and been given the best room that someone else has already paid for). We were told that if we didn't like it, we could leave and find another room perhaps back at the sister hotel. We waited with drinks before dinner but were left in the sitting room while everyone else was shown to their table for dinner. Eventually I went in to the dining room and found a table and told the hotel manager (who doubles - badly - as the waiter) that dinner should be served now. He told us that the problem was that the chef was unable to cope - even though we could see that the dining room was half empty.

We travel often and have never had such bad experiences while paying so much.

We had a lovely two night stay in August. Good location, great food, and a nice wine list. But the hotel decor, level of luxury is not what you infer from the website. Big rooms, great loo but something is missing...At £200+/night it's expensive but that's probable what the Market is in Skye

Not sure why people find the breakfast lacking. It's more than adequate. Good quality ingredients, good service.

Toravaig House was the last hotel we stayed at on our trip to London and Scotland and we had been looking forward to it. We had booked more than 8 months in advance ( and paid a substantial deposit) and I had specifically requested an ocean view room with two beds for my grandson and my daughter who were my travelling companions. I had been attracted to the hotel because of the ocean view rooms and the reputation for fine food. On arrival we were told there were no 2 bed rooms (the last had been given away the day before) and my daughter and her son shared a room with one bed and a view of the hill - no ocean. The dinner was not what we had hoped - we had many fine meals on our trip and this was not one of the best. The breakfast was adequate but again, definitely not one we will remember. The staff were pleasant but there were no apologies about not being able to honor the terms of our reservation. I have travelled to Skye many times but have not been back for many years. Skye is still beautiful and I will be back but definitely not to Toravaig House.

As we only going to be in Skye for 1 night we decided to splash out and book Torvaig Hotel but were were disappointed. The hotel is beautifully situated and clean but the room was small, not what we were expecting especially not at the price! Breakfast was good but again a bit on the small side.

Overall it is a nice hotel but don't think it is worth the money so wouldn't stay there again.
