“A Great Time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Spent 3 days there at the end of January, what a great location. Great deal, great staff and great food. The evening meal was superb, well cooked and plenty of it. The location is beautiful right on the loch side and I certainly hope to come back and try the fishing. One tip, try the Edinbane Inn on a Sunday afternoon for live traditional music, simply fantastic, thanks to all the musicians. Any bad points, not about the stay, but come on Oxford spend some money on your hotels.

Room Tip: The suites are superb

“A Beautiful Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed at the Skeabost whilst on business in November. What am amazing place! Because it was fairly quiet the receptionist upgraded us to a huge room with a four poster bed and massive bathroom for no extra cost. (One of the honeymoon suites I think) I would happily have stayed there for a month!! We found a games room with a snooker table and an old piano and spent the evening playing snooker with the locals whilst singing Abba around the piano! But no one seemed to mind... A very friendly place and very professional too.
I imagine this would be an amazing venue for a wedding or special event. I hope to go back one day!

Room Tip: Always worth asking about being upgraded if they aren't too busy...?

“Wonderful charming property and staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We were travelling from Tarbert, Harris to Tarbert, Argyll, and decided to stay one night instead of driving home in the dark.

Wonderful reception from Catriona, fabulous room (bigger than my house) with a 4 poster bed (only downside was a VERY creaky bed which creaked every time you moved even slightly, but everything else so perfect we didn't care enough), and a really good dinner. We had a lovely sit about on the couches in front of the log fire with other guests who seemed equally thrilled with the service (too good actually, there was a quite a bit of Alka Seltzer knocking about in the morning).

I'll be honest, that first night was so good, we decided to stay another two nights, and everything was just as good as that first night.

The billiards room was an added bonus, as was the cosy cocktail bar. We simply loved it.

The people on reception were also doing the bar, serving food and washing dishes, so there may be a bit of a wait, but you can't blame the management for keeping a skeleton staff at this time of year, and any waiting was minimal, I just felt a bit sorry for Catriona and Elaine (and the other chap whose name escapes me!), having to do absolutely everything, while I lounged about in my socks in front of the fire (not sorry enough to help, I was after all on holiday!)

Yes, the building is old, and some areas probably need attention, but in the dead of January, we didn't see much evidence of this. I suspect come summertime this will be more of an issue.

For my other half to pay out good money to stay 2 further nights on a stopover, when we could have been home in a few hours, is nothing short of miraculous, and a testament to the good work of Catriona, Elaine and the other gentleman. Thanks guys, you were the highlight of our holiday! (And Rob, the other guest, for the fishing and billiards!)

Room Tip: Just ensure before retiring that the bed isn;t as creaky as ours! I think all it needs is a good tig...

“Comfortable relaxing break”

Friendly staff and welcoming log fire on our arrival at Skeabost Hotel. Comfortable lounges with real fires and a lovely bedroom with four poster bed. An excellent sleep. We did pay an extra £20 pounds for this but it was well worth the money.
It is a well heated historic building with plenty of atmosphere.
Excellent cuisine, reasonably priced- breakfast particularly good.

“Real Highland country house hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Really enjoyed one night stay at the Skeabost Hotel. Overnight on the way to North Uist. Hotel is very convenient for the Uig ferry. Hotel is off the 'main road' but well signed. It has lost none of its Victorian country house charm. The snooker room feels like you have travel back in time. We stayed in the Premium rooms in the main house which are lovely and I could not fault. Diner and Breakfast excellent. Staff super helpful regarding information about the ferry.
