“Terrible”

Things went from bad to worse :(

First things first, the location of the place is great, close to the Square and Harbour, easy to find.

That's all that's good.

Was met bristly and led to a very basic room, on 1st glances ok. On looking closely it was very dirty, dust under bed, and broken slats, which i learnt of later :(

The nights sleep was very uncomfortable, the matress being old and sagging through the broken bottom. Noise from the house was unbearable throughout the night.

I won't be back.

“Sandra Campbell's B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2009

Stayed in the B&B accommodation for one night last week. Wasn't our first choice, but everywhere else seemed to be fully booked. Turned out to be a good choice. Sandra made us very welcome. The decor is a little on the tired side, but very clean, a very comfortable room and a great shower in the bathroom. Perfect location, only a few steps from the harbour. Plenty of places to eat, although found Portree to be quite pricey. But we did have a nice meal in the Arriba Cafe, upstairs - view can't be matched, looking out over the harbour as the sun went down. Great breakfast in the morning. We parked in the driveway, but otherwise I think you would have to say this is on-road parking.

“Great way to save some $$$”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2009

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. The view from our room was incomparable! The place is a little "rustic" and the bed wasn't very comfortable, but it's affordable, clean, and the location is hard to beat--- it is literally right on the harbor. We spent most of the time sitting in armchairs next to the window (2nd floor room next to the kitchen), watching the boats, people, birds... the most relaxing vacation we've had in a while. We bought most of our food from the grocery store nearby and saved a lot of money on restaurants. I only wish we'd planned to stay longer.

“Stayed at the Self-Catering Apartment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2008

The view was great. And location is very central to the town. At check-in the management did give good recomendation on hearing local music. However earlier criticism of parking is valid. We had to park next to the bins servicing the Fish and Chips operation next door. Nearest public parking would be a hike. Additionally, the apartment shares kitchen area and we found that created noise that we did not experience in any of our B&B stays. Maybe just bad neighbors. I don't recall being informed that credit card payment was not an option. Not a problem as we had cash, but I could see how other criticism is valid. I found the property from internet search, but did not check and now do not see a visitscotland.com rating. View was VERY VERY GOOD.

  • Liked — View was indeed as good as posted.
  • Disliked — Parking, noisey neighbors, value.

“Glorified Youth Hostel at a 5-star hotel price”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2006

I have just spent 3 days exploring the Island of Skye with a tour called Rabbies. Much to my dissapointment, Rabbies travel booked my accomodation at The Harbour Lodge in Portree. My only advise would be stay ANYWHERE but here! There are only 3 rooms in this so called lodge and all are dated and revolting. My heater did not work, nor did they service the room the next day. I was charged a ridiculous 48 pounds per night (even though it clearly advertises 15 pounds per person per night). Staff were no where to be seen at ALL times- even when I checked out I could not pay them their overpriced tariff for a complete hovel. Instead I had the inconvenience of having to give the money to my tour operator to give to them. The Harbour Lodge do not take any credit card payments either. The only redeeming factor is that it is situated right on the towns tiny harbour.
