I had the most wonderful stay at Viewfield House. The house is only a very short walk outside of Portree, about 10 minutes if you're slow. The hous itself is lovely and there are nice walks available in the surroundings. The view over the water is gorgeous. The food was good, and afternoon tea by the fireplace was divine. All the staff were super friendly and the room was spotless. Will definitely go back!

Lovely old house, very comfortable, clean and well kept, excellent staff. They manage to create a relaxed atmosphere, like staying in a home not a hotel. Excellent breakfasts, good dinner of quality home cooking, with huge portions, and good wine. Great spot if you are, like us, travelling without a car - the bus dropped us at the end of the drive, we could walk easily into town, and then easily venture further afield by bus for walking. As others have pointed out, whisky by the log fire is a big plus point, and there's an awful lot of dead animals about the place - including an elephant foot umbrella stand and a sheep's head on casters. But they've been part of the furniture since the 19th century.

This is an excellent property. Staff are helpful without being intrusive. Our room was very large and full of interesting objects. Breakfast and dinner very plentiful and well done. Hugh MacDonald is an excellent, cosmopolitan host. Roddy, Hugh's #1 person is delightful and ready to make your time with them enjoyable. Hugh's terrier, Harry, for terrier lovers like us, put our time at VH over the top!! We hope to come back and spend lovely evenings in the drawing room conversing with fellow guests. A special visit for us.

A nice old manse, very pleasant, warm and old world. Comfortable bed and bath and a good chef. Breakfast and a dinner were good. The chef does a great pecan pie! Only complaint was Internet charge was one pound an hour which was unbelievable. But the washer and dryer made it all worth it.
