Not long returned from a 2 night stay at the Meadowbank Guest House in Portree on the Isle of Skye. I have not stayed in many B&B's before as I usualy stop in hotels. But given the expensive hotel rates on Skye we opted for a moderate priced B&B in Portree.
Both Peter and Elaine run a superb facility here. They made us most welcome into their home. The rooms (1 x double in the main house) and (1 x twin the the annex) we suitably furnished and very very clean indeed. Both Elaine and Peter showed us to our rooms and explained how everthing (TV/Shower/Towel Rail etc) in the rooms worked. We were also given a breakfast menu to select the cooked items we wanted for the following morning which you leave in the hallway.
The breakfast is served in the conservatory and the food is superb. There is a slection of juices, cereals, fruit and yogurt. You also have the choice of tea and coffee, toast and cooked items including, bacon, your choice of eggs, sausage, haggis, black pudding, fruit pudding, mushrooms and tomatoes! If you manage to have if all you won't eat for the rest of the day!
My only negative comment about Meadowbank House is that you need to vacate your rooms between 10am and 5pm each day. It would have been beneficial for us if we could have returned by 3pm each day.
The guest house is moments walk from the centre of Portree where there are lots of hotels and resturants but beware, none of them have any outdoor seating which is very dissapointing as the weather was fantastic during our stay. We did however manage to find a beer garden at Marmalade.
Finally be sure to ask Peter and Elaine for resturant recommendations, they are more than happy to help you.
