“Fantastic location by the harbour's edge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2010

We stayed in the Portree apartment which is in an old restored building down by the harbour's edge. The apartment is over two floors and is nicely decorated and furnished. Also, it's well equipped for self-catering. The entrance, up a staircase, took a little time to get used to but it is after all in a restored old building ( the terrace of houses on the quay must be the most photographed view in Portree and features on many postcards ).

What makes this apartment unique is its location. Overlooking a small working harbour one can sit by the window watching an ever-changing view in all weathers. Tide, wind and weather all affect the vista. Small fishing boats bob up and down alongside pleasure craft. Wildlife too....all sorts of sea birds and seals. We spent hours just watching it all! Hustle and bustle by day and very quiet at night,

As the apartment is right in the town all the amenities ( restaurants, supermarket,, shops, etc. ) are a short walk away. The owners were very helpful with touring/walking suggestions and with restaurant recommendations.

Difficult to reply constructively to such a review when we have no idea who this is or what the problem was? As its over a year since you stayed, we truly believe you to be confused with somewhere else, you certainly didn’t stay with us at the time you said you did. There are many other contradictions & inconsistencies and the ‘review’ does not seem genuine for the following reasons……

The name of the ‘review’ contradicts the content, you say ‘lovely apartment’ but continue by giving very low scores for the apartment, it cant be both can it?

What exactly, (as you found the apartment lovely) was the issue you needed to contact us about to find that our customer service was ‘terrible’? There’s no mention of which apt you were in. This is one of the reasons we don’t believe you stayed with us, you don’t mention what the problem was, which apartment you were in, or who you tried to deal with or any detail about what was bad? Surely when writing a a negative review the whole point would be to say what the problem was, not some vague quip with no substance? Obviously if you didn’t stay with us you couldn’t describe the apartment or the staff or the issue.

If our customer services were so bad and your stay ruined, why do you wait a year before leaving the comment? You left another business a negative and unhelpful ‘review’ in August (when you joined trip advisor), why not leave our ‘review’ then? Why wait a further 4 months, near a year after the stay in total? 2 strange ‘reviews’ that seem to be malicious for no given reason?

We always try to do everything to rectify any issue immediately, all we want is our guests to be happy and we do everything possible to make sure it happens, we care very much about our customers and all our staff are friendly and helpful and have pride in all aspects of their jobs and the apartments. We have a small dedicated team that love to help.

You say you stayed in Dec 09 but this was just not possible as we were closed for most of that December due to renovation and holiday, of the few bookings we had, no one tried to contact us or report any issue. All the couples staying with us in December, left great comments in our guest book, so this is another reason that we believe this is not a genuine review or you stayed somewhere else.

We always ask guests how their stay was and also send a follow up email after each stay, asking if everything was ok? We got no feedback at all from any stay at this time.

The reviewer has hidden their identity and their location, why do you remain anonymous and give zero detail about the issue, seems strange to us……..

“Luxury apartment in wonderful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2010

We have visited Skye for many years, staying in all the best hotels, but we never expected to find such a modern well appointed place to stay. "Fada" is a two person apartment. The highlight was the bathroom complete with a large bath and a wet room shower area. The rest of the apartment is open-plan. The bed has soft bedding virtually guaranteeing a good nights sleep. The kitchen with electric cooker and microwave and breakfast bar is more than adequate for cooking full meals although Portree with its choice of eateries is only a 10 minute drive away. If I was being picky I would have liked a dishwasher. The sitting area is spacious and as the apartment is on the first floor there is no need to draw the curtains and miss the excellent view over the loch and (on a clear night) see the starry sky as one never sees it in a town.

The off road parking is good and the road itself was only lightly trafficed during our stay. Others have commented on the cost but I felt it was good value. We had more space than if we had stayed in a suite in a hotel and the location was both remote and convenient.

On our arrival the apartment was spotlessly clean. There is a phone with a direct link to the owners which proved really useful when I couldn't figure out how to lock the door (you have to raise the handle whilst turning the key).

The wi-fi worked well although there was no mobile phone signal (on O2).

In summary if you want a luxury self catering apartment on Skye in a wonderful location look no further.

“Great location for a short stay, a bit pricey for late season”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

Booked direct a few weeks before stay and didn't get the price of the last reviewer. If we had then I would have said good value. Didn't even get the complimentary bottle of wine although the fact that we arrived early as the service was just being completed may explain the wine oversight.

The location is super. The first floor apartment (Fada) overlooks the loch and the road below wasn't an issue. The decked garden was a nice touch but the midges and the weather meant we weren't able to take advantage of it. The apartment itself was well laid out and appointed. The kitchen was well enough equipped for a short stay. I would suggest that the decor and blinds would need freshened up for the next season to live up to the 'luxury' description, particulary in the bathroom. One irritant was that the notice said the hot water is on constant with only a boost required for extra amounts, it wasn't switched on at all and we returned from our first outing to cold showers! The WiFi, Ipod, tv are very welcome but are now becoming the norm in four star self catering. Which brings me to my comment on value. Having stayed in a range of Highland and Island accommodation I felt I was paying a high summer price. I'd certainly recommend these apartments to others if the price matched the market and the season and would go back.

The location is fabulous if you want a quiet break and a good base for the outdoors. The Old Man of Storr is just a walk away and the loch view is stunning. Skye is a beautiful island and this apartment feels very remote but Portree is only a short drive away.

“Excellent apartment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

By the time we decided that the weather was going to let us spend a weekend on Skye, accommodation was hard to come by: luckily we managed to book the Fada apartment at Storr Lochs for the first night of our stay. This is essentially a studio apartment - open plan, they term it - with the bedroom, sitting area and kitchen all-in-one, so not for you if you like your walls. The quality of the decor and furnishings is very good and, unlike so many so-called self-catering places where you'd struggle to make a slice of toast, the kitchen here is actually well-equipped for people who might want to do some cooking. Where Fada really excels, though is in the bathroom and the outisde. The hammock in the secluded, decked garden easily accommodates two, as does the deep, free-standing bath inside, and the wet-area power-shower is a real tonic after a long day's walking. The part-stocking of the kitchen, too, was far better than many such welcome packs, including a good bottle of wine.
One or two bits of trim had taken a knock here and there, and we felt that the prices being quoted on some late booking sites - between £120 and £140 - were a little excessive for the accommodation and the time of year, but we were happy with the £100 we paid by booking direct with the helpful and pleasant Katie and Nigel.
Free wifi and a complete lack of mobile signal were the perfect combination.
Throw in a secluded, loch-side location only ten minutes from Portree, and this is definitely one we'd book again.
