Okay - so I don't have a great deal to compare this hostel to but I am a middle-aged mum, not a great traveller, and this was my first hostel experience when visiting Skye with my teenaged daughter. I'd read some horror stories about hostels but our room at Saucy Marys was clean with comfy beds, a lovely view, clean bathroom (a big plus) with a hot, strong shower. The rooms are above a bar and this provided a great atmosphere: hot, filling basic meals, and a very reasonably-priced bar! The bar was busy but not overwhelmingly so with young people from around the world staying in, including a shy young American techno-geek travelling alone, a noisy group of Australians (apparently mandatory at all European hostels), our tour group of mother-and-daughter+married couple from India+Canadian techno geek, as well as a handful of locals. It was loud, friendly and good-natured. We had a quiet night's sleep and enjoyed the breakfast of cereal, yoghurt, tea & toast. NB Australians: they have VEGEMITE!
