I stayed at this "hotel" in September 2011 while on a Trafalgar Tour. This was the worst hotel we stayed at, thankfully most of the others on the 20 night trip were very good. I noticed that the ancient appliances, lamps, etc in the rooms had safety test tags attached to them, indicating that they were safe to use. I don't know how much a "test and tag" service costs but I wondered whether it might have been more cost effective to ditch the old appliances and replace with new ones. After all, new electrical appliances, tvs, lamps etc, are dirt cheap these days. The hotel has an attractive facade, and the dining rooms are ok too, particularly when the tables are nicely dressed for meals. My room was fairly clean and the bed linen and towels were good. But, seriously, the state of repair and construction of the building seems to be beyond resuscitation. Obviously no money has been spent on repair and maintenance for a very long period. I think they should just pull it down and start again.
