We recently spent a few days on Skye but had no idea where to stay. A cousin of mine recommended a Bed and Breakfast in Broadford bay, which turned out to be full. They, in turn, recommended Tony and Kirsten at Braeholm. We were SO lucky. This is a fabulous B&B!
Tony and Kirsten live in a small crofters style cottage just off the main road (A87) in Harrapool and a few hundred yards from the centre of Broadford. Do not worry that they are just off the main road; my partner wakes at the slightest noise and slept soundly here.
There are two rooms to choose from. The first room is a double bedded room on the ground floor with bathroom right next door (shared with Tony and Kirsten); the second is a much larger room upstairs with double bed, en suite shower, seating area, DVD player and TV. Both rooms have very comfy beds, CD player and coffee making facilities. The room on the ground floor has views to the rear of the property over fields and the upstairs room has views out to Broadford Bay. Sheets and towels are changed every other day.
The dining cum living room is located on the ground floor at the front of the house. Tony and Kirsten offer four delicious choices of breakfast which are served at a time convenient for you. All breakfasts come with fruit juice, tea, coffee, cereals, fresh fruit, toast and jams - the bread is home made by Tony. The four choices are
1) Full English Breakfast - Sausage, Bacon, Egg, Tomato, Mushroom, Baked Beans, Black pudding
2) Continental Breakfast - Cold meats, cheeses and Danish pastries
3) Healthy Option - Yogurt, Muesli, Fresh fruit salad
4) Special Breakfast - Smoked Salmon and Eggs
The portions were large but they will adjust to suit you; wheat and dairy intolerances were willingly catered for.
There is also a selection of books, guides, maps, games, CDs and DVDs in the dining room for you to amuse yourself with if the weather is inclement.
There are several restaurants and shops nearby. The Claymore Restaurant served delicious seafood at a reasonable price.
This was our fist B&B of the holidays, so we were a little sceptical of the reviews in their guest book claiming that this was the best bed and breakfast in the Islands, but we stayed at six other B&Bs during our holiday and this one really was exceptional. If you'd like to have a look, go to their website at http://www.stay-on-skye.co.uk/ - the photos are real photos, not taken from a catalogue!

Would I stay there again? Like a shot!
