“Bring your own bed”

We stayed for 2 nights at this hotel and regretted every minute of it. The hotel looks old, the entrance was untidy. The manager was helpful checking us in and when asked for a pub nearby sent us to the pub next door, which is in the same state as the hotel, which is not surprising because it is owned by the same people.

Our room was in real need of a decent refurbishment, the toilet would not always flush, the matress was in such a bad state that they had put a blanket over it to cover it up (under the bedlinnen) and smelt really bad. It was also really worn out, so certainly not very comfortable for people with back problems.

Breakfast was also quite disappointing, that was why we decided on the second day to go to the supermarket down the road to get breakfast there.

All in all, we regretted staying at this hotel.

“Basic but comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Needs renovation really badly, however good food in the restaurant and breakfast was fine. Hotel was clean.

Thank you for your comments I am pleased to say that there is a planned refurbishment programme going ahead in 2012 . I hope to welcome you back to the Dunollie after the programme has finished so that you will be able to see the progress.

“Dunollie at New Year”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

The place is a bit soulless and I imagine the bus tour trade is what it survives on. My room was warm enough with the electric heater on, however there was no TV signal, so no TV, no radio or radio alarm, and no telephone. There is also no wifi and no mobile phone signal, which seemed common on Skye. The breakfast was OK, but not the best, although the dining room has massive windows looking out to sea. In better weather it must be a beautiful view. My room had not been made-up after my first night of two staying there.
I would not choose to stay there again if I'm being honest.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your comments. The televisions were down due to the storm on the 30th December and we were unable to get an engineer out on new years eve. Wifi is about to be installed at the hotel in the near future as for phone signal this is outwith our control. There is a planned refurbishment programme in place for 2012 and I hope we can welcome you back in the future once the refurbishment has taken place.Once again, Thank you for your comments on this occasion.

“Total disrespect of customers”

I visited this hotel with a tour in September. SInce then I have been trying to get the hotel to acknowledge my complaints. The first room we were allocated: we were unable to lock the door; the curtains did not match and the standard was vey poor. We were allocated a second room. We had to move our luggage ourselves. In this room there was mould in the bathroom; the toilet was broken; the tap on the sink was broken and there was no cover for the batteries on the remote control for the TV. We registered our complaint at the time but the management took no notice. I have written on two occasions (and copied the letter to the 'parent' organisation on the second occasion). I have had no acnowledgement of this correspondence. The next stage is to try and get the 2* rating removed - it is certainly not warranted. I am not seeking compensation - just improvement in standards for fellow travellers. This hotel has a monopoly on Skye for coach parties and it was embarrassing to think that overseas visitors to this beautiful island had to experience such bad accommodation

“Reasonable value.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

I stayed at the Dunollie in July for one night.

The Hotel was a bit scruffy in places, but it was reasonable value.

A great view out of the Window in my Room.

Breakfast was fine but I arrived too late (8 PM) for an Evening Meal.

Not much to do in the Village or locality in the Evening so I visited the Bar where there was an Accordion Player Playing local Music which I enjoyed very much.

Not very central in Sky (just over the Bridge) but I managed to drive round most of the Island and return in the Evening.

There is only a small Car Park but there is plenty free Parking nearby.
