The staff is really friendly, and the facilities are well provided (specially the kitchen) and it is clean. Furthermore, they lend me a hairdrier. Rooms are ok, but a bit small. What I didn't like is that they separated me and my boyfriend because they had male and female dorms (this is normal), but when I got to my dorm I found two boys there because there weren't free places on male dorms. I didn't mind to share room with boys, but I couldn't understand why my boyfriend was put in other one if there was free places on mine and I was going to be sharing it with guys.

I spent 1 night in the hostel, in a dorm room. The hostel is quite old and the interiors are definitely not exciting. The room was pretty small, while common area is relatively big. Staff is friendly and can give some useful hints.
Location is ok, not far from the bus stop and the supermarket, and few steps away from the seaside.
For the poor services offered, the price is too high.

It is not that we are not use to youth hostels. On the contrary, we actually often stay in them - and from time to time even review them here on Trip Advisor.

We stayed on night in a "private room" in Broadford YH, for 2 people. As you can see from our photos, it contained a bunk bed. The room was 2.5m by 2m = 5 square meters. We paid GBP 48.20 = 54 Euro = 77.20 USD excluding breakfast. No, I am not kidding.

The room had a very nasty smell - probably from the carpet. It had no sink, toilet or shower.

The common area was carpeted throughout, and full of old sofas and armchairs. The eating room smelled - as it has no window and can therefore not be aired.

The kitchen was large and the equipment in it was all right. It was clean too.

We cannot recommend Broadford YH. We found the place rather depressing, and the "private room" was ridiculously small and severely overpriced. Pay a tenner more and stay in a B&B nearby.

I'd come up from Oban by bus, train and ferry, heading for Portree, where I had a room booked. It was rainy and I'd had a long, miserable, midgy wait for the bus after getting off the boat. With another lengthy wait between buses at Broadford, I decided to check out the hostel here and it was a good decision.

It's small and basic, with ladderless bunk beds squished into tiny dorms, but the kitchen is big and well-equipped and the sitting room beside it is snug and well-equipped with comfy chairs. The staff were friendly and cheerful and managed to find me a bed even though I'd crawled in with no notice. It's not a swanky hostel with posh family rooms and antique fittings, but on a rainy day, when you don't want to travel any further, it's just about perfect.

There's a big supermarket five minutes walk away and fairly frequent buses to other parts of Skye, although the connections between services are crap. I suspect the views are pretty awesome on a clear day - the bay was impressive in bad weather.
