“Fantastic views, fabulous room, friendly family hosts - we hope to return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

The Mackay family were very helpful and made us extremely welcome at Sonas House - there was absolutely no feeling of our encroaching on their privacy. We stayed in Red Poppy room on the ground floor with french windows opening onto a patio with table and chairs for our use, with breathtaking views across the Sound of Mull, we also made good use the swimming pool. Joan's cooked Scottish breakfasts with Stornaway black pudding is a must, but do try the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, I have never tasted any like them. Rooms are refreshed every day, unless not required, and always a hot shower available. The Moulton Brown toiletries were much appreciated as we were travelling light on our motor bike. We hope to return next year with our family, can't wait !

“Breathtaking”

We stayed at Sonas for 2 nights on a bed and breakfast basis last month and had the most wonderful time. Mull itself is so picturesque and the views from the guest house were breathtaking. Laura made the most wonderful full Scottish breakfast which set us up for the dy ahead and the weather was such that we ate it outside overlooking the beautiful bay. We had a swim in the fabulous pool on one of the evenings and the whole family were so welcoming and friendly.

“A lovely stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2010

My family and I really enjoyed our time at Sonas House. Laura was a lovely host: warm, but not at all obtrusive. She provided excellent suggestions for exploring the Isle of Mull. The accommodations were very comfortable, and very quiet and peaceful at night. It was also a pleasant place to spend the better part of a rainy day. My bed in the blue poppy room was excellent. I highly recommend Sonas House, and I would be pleased to return.

“Warm Welcome & Beautiful Views At Sonas House”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2010

My family booked the studio apartment in July 2010, which was in a separate building from the main house above a converted garage. The room can sleep up to 4 people but requires some effort to move the coffee table and arrange the sofa bed. That aside, the room was spacious enough for the 4 of us and everything in the room were top-notch, from the clean bathroom to the comfortable beds to the self-sufficient kitchenette. Gorgeous view of the gardens and the Sound of Mull as well! The only issue I had was that the floor creaked a little so it wasn't convenient walking around when someone else was already sleeping. Also, the wifi was very weak and we had problems connecting to the internet from the apartment.

I didn't get to meet Laura who runs the B&B but her mum gave us a warm welcome and showed us the swimming pool and ran us through the amenities in the kitchenette as well as the generous continental breakfast spread which was already all kept in our room refrigerator. She also kindly told us that we could use the swimming pool after 7pm as they didn't mind closing it a little later. It was a shame though, cos we were out till late and left early the next morning and didn't have a chance to use the swimming pool which looked really welcoming!

Sonas House is located on the hills above the main street of Tobermory and only a short walk or drive down, albeit a steep one, but this shouldn't put you off staying here! Truly a place I would highly recommended to all visiting Tobermory!
