“tired and in need of an update”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

having stayed here last year i was hoping that the same excellent standards would be met. i was sadly disappointed. rooms tired and drab. wifi wouldnt work, empty breakfast trays and bowls at the help yourself buffet that you had to wait ages for to be replenished with luke warm food., repeated requests for basics such as milk, butter, coffee and toast.
The fire alarm was set off by 'friends' of the drunken foreign staff at 2.30am and as mentioned by derek m, the evacuation was a shambles. we stood in the pouring rain in our nightclothes for over an hour while a useless role call was organised. elderly people were still in the hotel some 30 minutes after the alarm, getting dressed, grabbing bags and coats etc. some even refused to come out as they didnt want to get wet!. once back inside we were not even offered a hot drink or towels to dry ourselves. even in the spa, the jacuzzi had green water in it and we had to ask for towels repeatedly. the screaming children in the pool was the icing on the cake in terms of relaxation.

Room Tip: choose somewhere else

Dear Guest,

Thank you for posting your review on Trip Advisor.

I was of course very disappointed to read your comments regarding your short stay with us. Please allow me to extend my sincerest apologies that on this occasion things were not up to our usual standards.

The hotel is closed over the winter period, and whilst we are closed we are planning to take full advantage of this and use the time to freshen the hotel. This will include redecorating all the bedrooms and public areas; however I do appreciate that this is of no consolation to you.

Once again I would like to apologise that your stay with us was not as enjoyable as it could have been.

Kindest Regards
Gemah

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

I was of course very disappointed to read your comments regarding your short stay with us. Please allow me to extend my sincerest apologies that on this occasion things were not up to our usual standards.

We are working on a rolling maintenance programme to which will see all bedrooms redecorated throughout the winter period, I have also personally spoken with the housekeeping team regarding cleanliness and customer satisfaction, and I can only apologise for the inconveniences this caused and I appreciate this is no consolation to yourself.

I would have only been to happy to listen to your concerns at the time of your visit where we could have rectified the issues raised.

Kindest Regards

“Visited before, but not impressed this time”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Whilst we've stayed at the IoM several times over the years, we must say that this one was no where near as good as all the previous occasions for a number of reasons.

Whilst we accept that our stay was within a couple of weeks of their autumn closure, hopefully for refurbishment and redecoration, so basics were sadly very lacking.

1) Not having any marmalade at breakfast throughout the stay, granted they'd no objection to us buying our own locally, nor friends on neighbouring tables borrowing.

2) Not having baked beans with the cooked breakfasts for several days just shows poor planning.

3) Similarly whilst the al a carte menu looked promising, to be advised that local caught/supplied seafood wasn't available was very surprising (given that the supplier is circa 20 minutes away)

4) Seeing 2 staff being brought 'home' drunk and very legless for their own safety by the Police is surprising, however the fact that they'd also seemingly invited several colleagues and friends locally back for a party , 2 of which set off the Fire Alarms at circa 02:30 in the morning is not acceptable.

5) However the hotel response in evacuating and accounting for guests was extremely poor and lamentable, with guests still wandering out to the assembly point some 30-40 minutes after the alams first sounding. When advised that we knew of 2 deaf guests who we knew were in the hotel but hadn't been seen outside, common sense would be to take a hotel pass key rather than setting off to knock on their door (if they can't hear the alarms, why would they hear some one knocking on their door ?)
When guests were outside the actual roll call was a shambles. Yes some guests were still out, but shouting names and not getting an answer, then moving on without asking others if they knew where they were was poor, never mind then asking if there was any one prsent/guest who'd they'd not called their names for to make themselves known, but then not recording their names/rooms was pitiful.

6) The actual evacuation highlighted a number of other issues. One being that the fire door/exit closest to us wasn't actually closed, it wouldn't, so was open anyway (not very secure), plus that the subsequent steps and other tripping hazrads were NOT illuminated, nor was the car park, nor the actually Assembly Point.

7) In a room we'd expect sufficient towels to be left for all guests in that room, yes we asked for more, but when the room was tidied and old ones taken away, there were insufficient new ones left

8) Whilst the hotel has wifi, this was so poor and unreliable as to be actually useable most days

9) Despite booking Spa treatments in March, to ensure sufficient therapists available, it came as quite a shock on arrival to find that these bookings had not be carried over from one diary/booking system to the current one during the spring, so several people in the party and others were dis-appointed.

10) In respect of the Spa, whilst generally if is very good, it's disappointing that the hot tub appears to be a domestic rather than commercial one and that maintence was poor, indeed on the Sunday of our stay it was having to be drained down as it was frankly unuseable/a health hazard

Will we use the IoM again ?
Very hard to say at this time.
We'd really like to, but based on this October's visit it looks like we'll be looking elsewhere for our 2012 trips (yes plural) to the island.

Please rest assured that we now have measures in place to ensure this situation does not happen again, and that the relevant retraining will be given where required. These circumstances are certainly not usual at our hotel.

“best short break ever!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Me and husband at least spend 3 short breaks away per year, so we know a nice location and standards. We booked through Easybreaks and got what seemed a to good to be true deal!! when we arrived @ craignure you could see the hotel peeking out the trees so you couldnt miss it. it took us 5 mins approx to hike it there, just enough time to enjoy a brisk walk.
we are a couple in our 30's and found the hotel to be cosy, relaxing and very secluded, which is what you need when your taking time out.
Our room was clean and well equiped and nothing was a problem to the staff that worked there.
We throughly enjoyed the b/fast, lunch and dinner provided and you were always greeted in a happy, pleasent manner.
We also enjoyed the use of the outside hottub, foot spa and steam room and felt these were a real asset to the hotel. I also had my eyelashes/eyebrows tinted and waxed and the girl was so fast and friendly.
I dont know who the male dining room greeter was with the shirt and tie, but he was most friendly and made our stay very pleasent and he seemed to work round the clock.
all in all i would recommend all young couples give it a go! I can be quiet hard to please @ times but this definitely hit the spot for me.
