“Needs an overhaul”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

Spent two nights at this hotel and would suggest the owners invest some funds in bringing it up to a better standard. The view from the hotel is wonderful but the room was jaded, the paint work on the windows is flaking, the mirror in the bathroom is too low as is the shower and the pressure of water from the shower was very low so it was not possible to get a decent shower. The bed was comfortable and the room was generally quite clean. We did not notice anyone who appeared to be in charge and the staff were helpful but seemed unable to raise a smile. The meals were quite basic and lacked any imagination. There was a lack of staff and I noticed that there were still empty glasses in the guest sitting area at 12 noon from the previous night. The outdoor area in front of the hotel has a nice sitting area but the paths were poorly maintained and some of the steps were dangerous and someone could easily fall down the steps. The hotel has great potential and with a bit of a refurbishment and some staff training on how to smile and be more welcoming could become a very popular venue.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on trip advisor.

I very much regret the problems you experienced during your stay at the hotel. I would like to assure you that I am now dealing with the issues highlighted and reassure you that this is not the normal level of service I would care for our guests to receive.

We are continually working on a maintenance programme to ensure we maintain the high levels of standards our guests usually enjoy. This winter will see all bedrooms & public areas redecorated for reopening next season.

Please rest assured that we now have measures in place to ensure this situation does not happen again, and that the relevant retraining will be given where required.

I thank you again for taking the time to post your review & apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Kindest Regards
Gemah

“Very Disappointing!, noisey, scruffy and not very clean”

Booked this to take my mother for what we hoped would be a few restful days away very disappointing. . The building has impressive views there is a spa and pool attached but apart from that it is a huge let down. The hotel has very thin walls and even thinner floors and ceilings and little or no sound insulation and the noise is constant on an evening and during the night from doors being banged to people running up and down the corridors banging doors and carrying on. When we there there was some sort of "wedding do" going on and it was a long saturday night of raucous drunken behaviour until about 6am next morning whenl all the drunken behaviour stopped and the drunks eventually stopped carrying on and fell alseep?. My mother is hard of hearing so she managed to get a good night's sleep but I was awake the whole night not not best pleased. Next day there was no hot water for some reason and the bathroom had a very bad smell it all the time we were there something to do with a the extractor fan not working and a general lack of proper cleaning. Food wasn't too bad but the overall impression was very poor and not worth the money, a sign at the side of the front door rated the hotel by the AA as "3 star", 1-2 star would have been more accurate, currently trying to get a full refund from my credit card company as this was not what we paid for

Room Tip: don't believe the brochure, 1 star hotel charging 3 star prices

“Not up to scratch”

Very poor standard, On arrival 1 members of staff trying to deal with a load of new arrivals, answer the phone and serve bar all at the same time. Booked a double room got a room with 3 single beds. Bathroom smelt musty, loo roll holder falling off wall as is the heated towel rail. No drinking glasses in room, no tourist info in room and little in reception, no soaps in room. and would you believe what appeared to be a cockroach trap under the bed!. We didn't even use the bathroom and used the public toilets in reception and the spa showers instead! Overall the staff not very friendly, a waitress wanted a dinner booking before we sat down to breakfast and a bar person asked me to wait to be served while he debated the Sunday bus times with another employee! On the plus side the food was good and the spa was exellent though the hot tub appeared to be out of use "till further notice" My bulgarian partner was not impressed with her first experience of Scottish Hotels.

“Disappointed”

3rd trip to this Hotel and probably the last - Hotel has fantastic views.
Staff not good at conversation especially in restuarant.
Rooms shabby and toilet a big let down, shower mat and curtain were filthy and mildew - yuk. Toilet pan was at an angle and if you sat square on you burnt your leg on heated towel rail, not ideal.
Food was disappointing in dining room, bar food very limited.
Bus trips spoilt out trip as they are so greedy and demand the best seats, food etc. a big disappointment for a quiet relaxing break.
Whole building needs updated and a good lick of paint etc. Expected more for £139 ppn!!!

Room Tip: Upstairs always - the downstairs rooms you hear everything upstairs and terrible if guest has bladde...

“Good base for an Isle of Mull Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

The hotel is a modern building with wonderful sea views, even on the ground floor. It is ideally located, being just two minutes drive from the ferry terminal and being centrally located, all parts of Mull are within easy reach. Staff were helpful and the food was good. Only issues were that they seem to be a little short of staff, so there was sometimes a bit of a delay being served at reception and the bar. General standards of cleanliness were good, although there was a number of dead insects in the central lampshade in our room, so I've marked them down a bit for that oversight. Value for money was excellent, however, and the hotel is recommended
