I absolutely love this place. We arrived late, after a nine-hour drive in the rain and were so grateful for Cathy's warm welcome -- and the tipple of Scotch she offered.
The place is in a gorgeous setting, about two miles from the village of Bunnessan and also not far from Fionnphort, which has the ferry over to Iona. It's a short walk from the B&B to a wide beach surrounded by wildflowers and the organic Ardalanish farm, where you can buy wool yarn and unique clothing and watch the weavers at work. You can also walk through the farm and enjoy stunning views amid a range of flowers, birds, highland cows and Hebridean sheep.
The lounge and several rooms have great views out to the water and the island of Jura. The rooms weren't huge compared with other B&Bs we stayed at in Scotland, but they were our favorite because of the thoughtful design & layout -- bedside lights & bookshelves, and lots of little hooks and nooks for belongings.
Lots of books are provided in the lounge -- ranging from books on local history or flora and fauna, to classic lit. And the resident golden retrievers Coots and Cara will keep you company should you decide to spend an evening reading in the lounge.
Breakfast wasn't overly generous, but substantial enough and very tasty. We didn't try dinner here, but ate a couple of meals at the Argyll Arms in Bunnessan, which while VERY slow, had decent food and even some good vegetarian options.
Our host Cathy very helpfully made a reservation for us at the Argyll, as we were delayed getting to town our first night, and also by doing our laundry for a minimal fee. We got the impression that she really cares about the comfort & happiness of her guests and we left feeling rejuvenated by our visit.
