“Nice - But expensive.. but they all are up there!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2011

Pleasant guest house right on the harbour front above a coffee shop.

The coffee shop also doubles as your breakfast room in the morning.

On arrival your keys are left in an envelope in the hallway. There is a small camera on the reception desk to monitor people going in and out.

Room was nicely finished and en suite. Nice bed, decent furniture and comfortable. The ensuite was also to a decent standard. Could get a little noisy outside however esp on a friday or saturday night as the pubs in town do get busy!

There is no service for breakfast on a sunday in keeping with the rules of the island in that sunday is a day of rest. However a nice BLT was left in the room the night before meaning that you could have breakfast wheny you woke at your leisure.

The guest house has no specific parking although there is a large town carpark by the ferry terminal on the other side of the road and there are no real parking restrictions on the surrounding streets.

We were up there visiting family so didn't spend too much time in the hotel and it seemed popular with tourists staying for a couple of nights to see the island.

I would recommend, although is expensive... but then again all of the accommodation is on the island so whilst it is nice I wouldn't class it as value for money. After all, you could have a week abroad in a nice hotel for similar money but thats besides the point I guess.

I would stay here again.

“Great value, great location, great service and atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2011

Just spent a week in the thorlee with work. I see alot of hotels and b&b's and this ranks up there with the best ive stayed. great location 2 minute walk from the ferry port and ample free parking just over the road. The outside could do with a lick of paint but with such a close seafront location it must take some upkeep.
The rennovated rooms are nicely finished with complimentary bottles of water biscuits and a chocolate on the pillow. nice touches.
Room 2 was the best double with double aspect seafront views...and room one the best twin with sea and harbour views.
breakfast was very nice with choice of fulol scottish or smoked salmon and scrambled egg with toast cereal te coffee etc.....
lovely host and morning staff
would stay again if the chance arose

“excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

A grand effort at renovation of a clearly aging structure, the location and friendly welcome made up for all slight drawbacks at this B & B. We had a wonderful view of the harbor from our room and the pleasant furnishings and excellent bathroom helped us completely ignore the sloped floor and collapsed chair legs. Very nice, right across the street from excellent parking and the entrance to the ferry -- very convenient. We left too early for breakfast but they brought us a tray the night before with cereal and tea-makings.

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

Restaurant staff especially Erica were very friendly and extremely helpful.Booked two rooms for a family visit and also business trip.1 room facing the port was very roomy, sadly I got the one facing the rear of guest house which was not so good. But overall an enjoyable stay.Clean with good en suite facilities.Good base for touring the surrounding country side.

“check your credit card statement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

hotel was fine, oldish, bit quirky but folk were nice. Unfortunately there was a problem where too much cash was taken off my credit card. This should have been easily and quickly sorted but it ended up taking over a month. As the time went by I was more and more convinced it wasn't a simple mistake. I also note a similar episode posted on here.
