“Just what Port Ellen needs”

I spent four nights in the brand new Islay Hotel and these were the four coldest of the winter so far. It was a pleasure to come in from work to a warm bedroom of a similar standard to a Premier Inn or Holiday Inn Express but of a much more intimate ambiance. The fully tiled bathroom had the largest and most powerful shower that I have ever experienced in any hotel. The breakfast is plentiful and gives you a great start to your day and likewise the dinner at the end of it. If I could change one thing and give a bit of advice, please serve hand cut chips with the haddock rather than those dreadful frozen things, especially when charging restaurant prices for a fish supper.
All in all, it was a pleasure to meet Islay's new kid on the block and I can highly recommend it. They are currently operating with seven double/twin rooms and hope to bring a further six on line for the summer. Works are on going toward this end but you will not be inconvenienced by this. Although the majority of the furnishings are new, there is a good mix of older, antique furnishings in use that blend in really well with the new and add to the character.

Room Tip: Front rooms have a view over the bay and the rear rooms have a partial view toward Kilnaughton beyon...

This Hotel only recently re-opened its doors after a complete rebuild. The restaurant and bars had opened for some months, and are very well fitted out, with pleasing ambience.
Bar is frequented by locals and tourists alike.
The owners proved to be very accomodating as we were caught short, due to an electricity blackout at holiday house. As this was on boxing day, and before the Hotel had opened all of their rooms - and as they were the only hotel open on that day to help- we could not fault their hospitable nature, and the attention we recieved for our two day stay.
Modern and very tastefully fitted out, the rooms were of a very high quality, with underfloor heating throughout. All Villeroy and Boch bathroom furniture too! All large flat screen freeview TV's in every room, so no skimping on cost at all!
All the staff were extremely obliging and very friendly, but if we were to have any form of complaint, it would only be the continued training of restaurant staff to the set up of tables etc - a minor point and all quickly redressed anyway!
The food was excellent , with good portion size, off a good menu choice.
Wine list was extensive for an Island hotel and of very good quality too!
Nice stained glass and some nice original touches too, making our visit very comfortable and pleasurable indeed. Nice people - warm welcome - We will be back !

Room Tip: All new and all furnished to same high standard. room 1 was big, and well equipped.
