I spent four nights in the brand new Islay Hotel and these were the four coldest of the winter so far. It was a pleasure to come in from work to a warm bedroom of a similar standard to a Premier Inn or Holiday Inn Express but of a much more intimate ambiance. The fully tiled bathroom had the largest and most powerful shower that I have ever experienced in any hotel. The breakfast is plentiful and gives you a great start to your day and likewise the dinner at the end of it. If I could change one thing and give a bit of advice, please serve hand cut chips with the haddock rather than those dreadful frozen things, especially when charging restaurant prices for a fish supper.
All in all, it was a pleasure to meet Islay's new kid on the block and I can highly recommend it. They are currently operating with seven double/twin rooms and hope to bring a further six on line for the summer. Works are on going toward this end but you will not be inconvenienced by this. Although the majority of the furnishings are new, there is a good mix of older, antique furnishings in use that blend in really well with the new and add to the character.
