“Another great stay over”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Stayed at Cornhill again on the 26th Nov, same room as usual, wonderful place, wonderful staff, so helpful, food fantastic again. The hotel is not stuffy, very welcoming and relaxed, fantastic views, we visited Biggar in the aftrenoonm, lovely village with lovely shops, escpecially Sheila Conn, worth a visit. Booked again for Feb next year, love the place.

Room Tip: Book room 5, four poster, loads of space and great views, massive bathroom, and spotless.

“Attending a Wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

I have Just attended a wedding in the beautiful setting of Cornhill House. We stayed there for two nights in a beautifully appointed room. The service was excellent and the staff were more than friendly and helpful. The day of the wedding was fabulous, the happy couple could not have wished for more, even miserable weather could not dampen our spirits. The food was of a very high standard and served impeccably. The staff made certain that every last detail was perfect, and ensured that the bride and groom and all the guests had a day to remember.I would highly recommend this hotel for a wedding or a break. I certainly will be back.

“Booking a wedding”

Ater a few phone calls back and forth to this hotel about booking a wedding dinner it was arranged for 23 sep 2011, asked if it was okay to bring the cake the day before and flowers that we wanted there this was fine so everything arranged ,until i phoned on the 12th sept to book a room there and got a shock when they said they dident know it was a wedding they said they thought it was a birthday party and i had not told them, previously telling them the bride was coming from canada, and her staff had phoned me and cofirmed everthing was okay, they then said they could not allow the wedding party there as there had been a misunderstanding on my part i think not, i said it was her staff that phoned me to confirm everthing, but she was not botherd at all so if your booking here please make sure you phone repeatadly to see if it suits them to have you there shocking. THEY HAD DOUBLE BOOKED YOU SEE AND THAT WAS A BIGGER WEDDING

This was certainly NOT A DOUBLE BOOKING. The wedding celebration already arranged to take place at Cornhill on that date had been booked some two years ahead.

The booking in question had been made as a small family dinner for 10 persons just a few weeks before and NO mention was made of a wedding party. NO call was subsequently received by the hotel advising that the bride was coming from Canada and NO call was made by the hotel to this person.

Minimum numbers for a wedding reception at Cornhill are 80 adults at weekends, furthermore, it is a well known and publicised fact that Cornhill has never allowed and never will allow more than one “Lady in a White Dress” on the same day.

Our curiosity with this situation is further compounded by the claim by this person that she had also made a provisional booking for a function to take place on the 6th February 2012 which happens to be a Monday. The hotel closes on a Monday at that time of year and therefore our diary is closed on these days.

“Old world charm...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

Cornhill House is a old stately home set in a lovely part of South Lanarkshire (weather dependent of course). As well as a hotel, Cornhill House is best known as a restaurant and it is the restaurant that we experienced.

The set up at Cornhill House is old fashioned, you are first taken through to the lounge where you will be served drinks and given the menus. Once you have chosen, your order will be taken and you are left free to relax in the lounge until a waiter comes and lets you know that your table is ready. The waiter takes your drinks on a tray and leads you to your table in another part of the House.

Once at your table, magically your food quickly appears, so it seems like you have been waiting for ages - quite a smart system.

The menu has a wide choice of British favourites as well as some world cusine and priced reasonably for what is a higher end dining experience. The portions are a good size and the food is tasty. The haggis croquettes were moreish.

Cornhill House is a firm favourite for family get togethers, special occassions and also for those who want something different than the standard chain restaurant.

The experience is a bit old fashioned but nice as you don't get this in too many places, so worth a visit just to try.
