“Exceeded expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

First visit to the hotel in 7 years, the refurbishment still feels fresh, I loved it. This is such a special place, the views, the building and the location are amazing, but the staff are the ones that make it great.

I travelled on my own with 2 children aged 5 and 7 and was made to feel really welcome in all of the restaurants and bars, as well as the Spa. The family rooms are great, an enormous bathroom, enormous superking size bed and a separate twin bedroom for the children. Perfect.

Free wi-fi; bathrobes for the kids; kids activity room with plenty of games and books available even when not "open"; amazing breakfast buffet (it always was); piper playing at sunset; fantastic concierge staff... exceptional food. The swimming pool is great too.

Dinner in the Ailsa Lounge was more suitable for the kids than the more formal 1906, even though there was a children's menu and they were made welcome. All day dining in the Clubhouse was also good.

None of us wanted to leave, and I hope we can return soon. Well done Turnberry.

Room Tip: Our family room was in the main hotel, really convenient for eating, and not too far for the swimmin...

“Cannot believe what we booked and what we got”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I find it hard to make such a review of what should have been a wonderful break, I booked via hotes.com, luxury room king size bed, what I got was a luxury room with 2 single beds joined together room 16, on the ground floor over looking the road into the spa no great views but the room had no heating that worked, on complaint to reception the problem with the room we were given two bright light halogen heaters for the room anyone who has ever used a halogen heater will know that unless you sit directly in front of them they generate no room heat they are designed to heat you not a room, on further complaint on the heating we were offered a room on the second floor wonderful view however two single beds great, on telling my wife what was offered we decided to make the most f the room which was freezing, I have now returned with a cold thanks, in trying to book restaurant for evening meal we were advised that the earliest time we could get in was 9.30pm thanks but no thanks, settled in for a meal in the lounge not a great menu and the only thing that wet my taste buds was the fish and chips which promptly arrived on my table in two stupid small chip pans that you had to try and eat out of totally over the top and stupid, fish and chips could have been better described as 9 chips and three fish fingers someone somewhere has lost the plot here service for drinks was slow and lack of resolving my room complaint has not gone down well the hotel did deduct £100 from a spa treatment that we booked but the whole experience has left a bad taste, I am not someone who leaves negative comments for the sake of slating a hotel but this was less than a 5 star experience that I was expecting I have had better service in a premier in than a hotel that could not cater for clients in case hotel management wish to comeback to me I booked in on 11/02/2012 and departed at 10am as the room was so cold. The offer to comeback was nice but not something I would like to take you up on.

Thank you for your comments. We offer our most sincere apologies for any upset or inconvenience caused to you by the technical difficulties which resulted in low temperatures in your room during your visit and we are sorry you chose not to move to the warmer room which was offered. The invitation to return for a night with our compliments was made in order that we may be given the chance to restore your faith in us; we are sorry you chose to also refuse this offer, and the reduction in your final account was made as a gesture of goodwill for any discomfort and upset caused. During weekends and busy periods, as with all Hotels we would advise our guests to book restaurants and other activities in advance to avoid disappointment, and regret that we did not have the specific dining time you requested available on the evening of your arrival. Our Ailsa Bar menu is designed to be a lighter, more casual dining experience and we are sorry if the presentation was not to your taste, your comments have been noted. We have subsequently written directly to you with a further apology and also to ask you to contact us if you should change your mind in the future; we would be delighted to assist you with any return booking in order that we can make sure you enjoy a stay which is memorable for the right reasons.

“Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We have just returned from a one night stay at this hotel. We had a wonderful time although you certainly pay for it.We were on a special trip with another couple and we wanted to make it special for them..I have stayed in hotels all over the world and the staff at Turnberry are certainly up there with the best.
Our room was truly wonderful as was the bathroom. We were in an Ocean View room and looked out onto the Ailsa Course which my husband played the following day.
The meal in 1906 restaurant was lovely and the service excellent. The wine list was very expensive but as it was a special weekend then it didn't matter...until our Visa bill comes in!!.The Bar prices were really expensive but we enjoyed the beautiful, comfortable surroundings .The breakfast was good and again great service.
The prices at the Spa were ridiculously high even for a 5 star Hotel.I had a massage which was thoroughly relaxing and so it should be for the price.
I loved the ambiance of the hotel and would love to return again.

Room Tip: If possible ask for an Ocean View.It is worth paying a little more for the beautiful views.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Stayed in this fantastic hotel, staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. Rooms were comfortable and decorated to a high standard. Meal in restaurant was also of a high standard. Went as part of a voucher deal and although embarrassing to Hand over voucher, staff treated us no differently. Hope to go back.

“Fantastic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I stayed at Turnberry for one night with my wife in a deluxe ocean view room - the room was beautifully decorated and in perfect condition. An added bonus for our mid-November stay was the unexpected good weather - 15 deg C and sunny!
The hotel and grounds are well maintained and service in all parts of the hotel is first class. We had drinks in the bar and ate in the 1906 Restaurant - neither are cheap but I couldn't find fault with the staff and the food - excellent quality on both counts.
I would recommend Turnberry for anyone looking to escape for a relaxing, luxurious break.
