We stayed one night as a stop-over point between Scotland and Ireland. The town itself didn't have much to do, so we spent almost an entire day in the pub. The pub smells like a museum, musty and gross, but the atmosphere was okay and the staff was very nice. (The clothes I wore in the pub DID have to be isolated in plastic bags for the rest of my trip.)
To be fair, the previous reviews that griped about the dark hallways were a bit harsh. The lights are on a motion sensor so you have to be patient. Once they kick in it is very well lit. I suppose it is a good thing for the environment.....but a bit annoying.
I didn't find the room to be dingy like previous reviewers, but the bathroom left a bit to be desired. The floor felt spongy as if the tub had overflowed at some point and never dried properly.
The owners have done what they can with the property but lets face it, you can put new paint on an old building but it will always be an old building.
I read the reviews before booking, booked anyway, and regret it.
