“Nice bar, awful room.”

Great bar, awful room!

Stayed one night last month on our way further north. The hotel is located in quite a nice place, within walking distance of Troon town centre. Our first impression when going through the door, was very good. Went and found somebody to check us in in the bar, which was very nice. Would have liked a room with a view, but all we got was roof tops! The room was badly in need of a refurb, had been hastily painted, white over green, which still showed through. There were two beds in the room, one double with a three quarter head board, and a single which wasnt long enough for an adult! We opted for the double bed, which had the most uncomfortable mattress, which bent in the middle! The bathroom was shabby, plastic footprints stuck on the bath bottom, which were all peeling off. The breakfast next morning was awful, it had been kept warm and was hard and dry. Not a good experience. The best part was the bar, had a lovely bar meal in there, although the staff were not very chatty.

  • Liked — The bar area had a good atmosphere and nice food.
  • Disliked — the bedroom was shabby and not good value. too expensive.

The hotel now has new owners (as of 1st. August 2006)and they know how things should be run. New air conditioning has been installed and bar area and foyer of the hotel have been fitted with new Black Watch (An old Scottish regiment) pattern carpets,a new kitchen is also planned in the very near future. At last things in general should improve greatly

  • Liked — comfortable
  • Disliked — nothing really
  • Tips/Secrets — great for golfers

“Never again”

I wish I had read the reviews on this hotel before booking, our stay was pretty much the same story. There was no-one on reception when we arrived and there was little interest in us from the staff members, who were cheeky and void of all customer service or people skills. As the bar was busy it took us a good while to get checked in, and when we did check in the the rooms were no very clean and either smelt smoke or a strong damp musty smell. Such a let down as the rest of the town and locals was lovely - Not Recommended try some of the local B&Bs instead.

“The worst hotel ever!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2005

I have traveled the world and stayed in many tough spots but this takes the cake. A recent golf trip to Scotland with 8 couples turned into a nightmare upon checking in at this Hotel/Inn. It is really a pub with some rooms. The smoke filtered upstairs into all of the rooms. There was no hot water in our section of the hotel. There was zero service. The floors were so warped that you would trip just walking down the hallway. Electricity was impossible. I realize Europe can be a little tough on the creature comforts. However, I will sleep at the airport rather than go near this Hotel again. At least you can get a clean shower without mold at the airport.
