“Dundonnell Hotel”

Bit like the Marie Celeste, that should have been enough warning! Room was habitable unless you expect to get hot water in the washbasin because there was none, even if it was allowed to run for ages! The dining room was closed in the evening, food was served in the bar. A choice of baked potatos, toasties etc, but nothing of substance. However once identified as guests we were offered a “special” of chicken in a garlic sauce – no choice of dishes! The food was dreadful. After complaint we had a discussion with the owner who said that the chef was off and apologised. The tables were sticky and appeared to be filthy, this we were assured was the hygienic substance used to clean them. Presumably they used the same substance on the sticky chair arms as well. A bad choice of hotel. Mia Culpa!

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

“Beautiful setting , badly run ,will be back when things changes.”

Some years ago, my wife and I stayed, and used the bar and restraunt on several occasions; and at the time the hotel was the center for "locals" with a busy bar. Also attended a large wedding reception there which was splendid.
At the end of August 2011, was staying with family at their local house ; I booked in for supper with a party of eight-what a mistake.
The steak was priced at top London prices, various items on the menu were unavailable, and what we reluctantly ordered was overpriced and could only be described as average.
The waiter tried hard but was slightly handicapped by his lack of English.
The fact that we were the only people in the bar for some time should have warned me that all was not right at the Dundonnell Hotel-when we left a film crew arrived, but not a "local" in sight.
I did ask to speak to the owner but was told "he was for to busy to see me"-he eventually granted me an interview in the kitchen; not surprised to report his attitude was not very helpful and I judged him to be an individual who does not like feedback from customers (unless it is praise worthy of course !).
Sad to write such a report-possibly the owners will address the concerns?

“We have just held an amazing big family and friends' event, much of it's due to the hospitality, location and warmth of the staf”

We came to spend a long weekend here for a large family and friends gathering and we had a wonderful time. The hotel suited us all from the well travelled to those on a budget, the food was excellent, the staff professional and friendly and the location was out of this world. The staff showed enormous flexibility and a sense of humour when we decided to hold our party games inside on an afternoon when the weather did not cooperate! We had three excellent nights. we can Highly recommend this charming hotel.

This quiet hotel, in a beautifull surroundings of the loch, is a perfect place to spend more days to discover the area from dundonnell to inverness and to ullapool,
We liked the hotel, the employees at our breakfast were very kind and the breakfast was ok
Allthough the room was not properly cleaned(dust on some furniture in he room),i enjoyed the silence, the loch .,and the hiking routes, just a few miles from the hotel.
Visit the little store a mile from the hotel, the corriehallie arts and crafts, stepping stones books, and visit ullapool and have great diner at the ARCH .
For a good room with beautifull sights i recommend the dundonnell Hotel.
You are in the middle of nature, nothing else will be here than the hotel.

“This was just what we wanted”

We have just spent 6 days here and had a really wonderful time. It was warm and welcoming and ideally situated for exploring a delightful area. Our room had a great view westwards and was spacious and comfortable, the food was fantastic (especially the haddock and chips and the sticky toffeee pudding) and the staff were helpful and friendly. We would recommend it to anyone who enjoys longish walks in idyllic countryside - and Munros for the really energetic .

P.S. It is really good value for money.
P.P.S. Great live music.

Room Tip: Stay for more than one night !
