Some years ago, my wife and I stayed, and used the bar and restraunt on several occasions; and at the time the hotel was the center for "locals" with a busy bar. Also attended a large wedding reception there which was splendid.
At the end of August 2011, was staying with family at their local house ; I booked in for supper with a party of eight-what a mistake.
The steak was priced at top London prices, various items on the menu were unavailable, and what we reluctantly ordered was overpriced and could only be described as average.
The waiter tried hard but was slightly handicapped by his lack of English.
The fact that we were the only people in the bar for some time should have warned me that all was not right at the Dundonnell Hotel-when we left a film crew arrived, but not a "local" in sight.
I did ask to speak to the owner but was told "he was for to busy to see me"-he eventually granted me an interview in the kitchen; not surprised to report his attitude was not very helpful and I judged him to be an individual who does not like feedback from customers (unless it is praise worthy of course !).
Sad to write such a report-possibly the owners will address the concerns?
