We paid £130 for a family room (1 double and a single) B+B. The booking email was ambiguous as it appeared were going to pay more than the web rate for 2 adults (£56 pp/pn) so I phoned to ask if were had been put on the DBB rate, we were very rudely told that we were on the BB rate and that it was the rate for the family room(no previous mention of this on website) and were could not book dinner now as it was too short notice (about 8-9hrs). We would have cancelled there and then, but we had already paid £50 deposit and he had our card details. As a side note we ate at the Kylesku Hotel / Rest on our way up from Ullapool, which is highly recommend (along with their hotel).
We arrived at Eddrachilles and the owner was all very polite, in fact all he ever says to guests is sir and ma'am, perhaps some folk lap this very false pretentious thing up, but it's pretty false given his phone manner earlier.
The room was very dated, think along the lines of 70's seaside resort, every wall magnolia wood chip wall paper, all fittings (bathroom, tv etc) very tired too. The family room had steps(4 or 5) down to the kiddies bit (as mentioned), but be aware these are quite steep. There was a paper printed guide of the area in each room, which he would kindly charge a fee for!!!
Breakfast was on a hot plate / servery and a little tired but edible if you picked the good bits. The hotel is in a good location, but given the views on the coast road north and south of there, it is hardly staggering. The conservatory is nice and you can look through the trees towards the see, but the rest/ breakfast room is an internal room and your only view is the other guests and dark stone walls. (pretty gloomy given the outdoor beauty of the NW Scotland if only you could see it).
Overall if the owner would get over himself (lots of his own photos on walls), drop the attitude and false pomp, then drop his price by 25-30% this place might start looking like good value. I can't comment on the evening meal, as thankfully (in hind sight) we escaped that !
I would advise any friend to either stop earlier at Kylesku(food and hotel) or head on further north.
