“Heaven in the Highlands, and on your plate.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2010

This is a delightful little hotel set on a bay giving the most wonderful views. The rooms are furnished traditionally. What do you want in a 200 year old house - IKEA? Warm and welcoming with a wine (and Whisky) list longer than my arms. And I've got long arms.
The food, oh the food. Locally sourced and so fresh. The Megrim I had was landed at Lochinver that morning. That's fresh!
The hotel is owned and run by a couple, he front of house, she, French, runs the kitchen. Scottish produce cooked to perfection with; un style exquis.
We've stayed twice. We will stay again!

“Over rated and over priced pomp.”

We paid £130 for a family room (1 double and a single) B+B. The booking email was ambiguous as it appeared were going to pay more than the web rate for 2 adults (£56 pp/pn) so I phoned to ask if were had been put on the DBB rate, we were very rudely told that we were on the BB rate and that it was the rate for the family room(no previous mention of this on website) and were could not book dinner now as it was too short notice (about 8-9hrs). We would have cancelled there and then, but we had already paid £50 deposit and he had our card details. As a side note we ate at the Kylesku Hotel / Rest on our way up from Ullapool, which is highly recommend (along with their hotel).

We arrived at Eddrachilles and the owner was all very polite, in fact all he ever says to guests is sir and ma'am, perhaps some folk lap this very false pretentious thing up, but it's pretty false given his phone manner earlier.

The room was very dated, think along the lines of 70's seaside resort, every wall magnolia wood chip wall paper, all fittings (bathroom, tv etc) very tired too. The family room had steps(4 or 5) down to the kiddies bit (as mentioned), but be aware these are quite steep. There was a paper printed guide of the area in each room, which he would kindly charge a fee for!!!

Breakfast was on a hot plate / servery and a little tired but edible if you picked the good bits. The hotel is in a good location, but given the views on the coast road north and south of there, it is hardly staggering. The conservatory is nice and you can look through the trees towards the see, but the rest/ breakfast room is an internal room and your only view is the other guests and dark stone walls. (pretty gloomy given the outdoor beauty of the NW Scotland if only you could see it).

Overall if the owner would get over himself (lots of his own photos on walls), drop the attitude and false pomp, then drop his price by 25-30% this place might start looking like good value. I can't comment on the evening meal, as thankfully (in hind sight) we escaped that !

I would advise any friend to either stop earlier at Kylesku(food and hotel) or head on further north.

“clean, comfortable, welcoming - a must visit place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2010

We spent six nights at the Eddrachilles. We were greeted with a warm welcome from Richard, the owner, who, throughout, sought to make our stay pleasurable. The room was very comfortable with a wonderful view over the bay. A relaxing bar in which to indulge 135 malt whiskys! Full morning buffet to set you up for the day, followed by a delightful evening meal of three courses which takes you to bursting point. Objectively, vegetarians may get tired of fish. We didnt think to ask for that option.
In all, this delightful and excellently run hotel, makes for a perfect base to explore the North West of Scotland and to return back to of an evening to relax after a day in the outdoors.

“We'll be back again and again.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2010

Superb hotel. This was our second visit and we were not disappointed. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Menu is varied and the food is delicious. Richard, the owner, is very approachable and attentive and his wife's cooking is excellent and now includes a buffet breakfast. The setting of the hotel in unbelievable and is an perfect location for touring the north of Scotland. The ferry for Handa island nature reserve is at Tarbet which is just north of the hotel and is well worth the vist.

“most beautiful setting”

coming back from the Orkney’s we took one of the most scenic routes in the Uk. When we had enough of driving we followed an inviting sign to an even more inviting driveway to be in front of a beautiful building from the 18th century – the Eddrachilles.
We were lucky enough that one last room was available – and although it was the family room we were not charged a single penny more.
The hotel is spotless clean and very cosy. Don’t miss a drink in the conservatory with a breathtakingly beautiful view to the harbour. The owner certainly knows his whiskeys and is ever so willing to find exactly the right one for you.
The staff is very friendly – the owner even carried the suitcase for us up the stairs.
The food was superb – in response to those who moan that it was presented verbally : this is what happens in a good restaurant – it’s part of the service and give you the chance to ask and have the courses explained.
Room and bathroom are spacious, very well equipped and again very clean. Though we had a bit of a giggle – it helps if you are taller than we are specially to switch the bedside lights on and off – but therefore we had 2 toilet roll holders :-D.
Overall definitely a place where we could have stayed longer or will go back when we are in the area.
