“A Dining Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

Eddrachilles is a little gem hiding just out of Scourie with magnificent views of Badcall Bay. Run by Richard and his french wife Isabella we found our stay here a pleasant interlude. The bedrooms are a little retro but comfortable nonetheless, the bathroom could do with some attention, however, it was functional. Considering we were in the bedroom for such a short time, the other amenities far outweighed these shortcomings. The conservatory and the views of the bay are to die for and the garden walk very pleasant.
We chose the package which included dinner and I have to say it was value for money and excellent food, alone worth staying for! The service was a little swift for our liking, but when we asked for it to be slowed down, there wasn't a problem.
We retired to the bar after dinner for a night cap and had a lovely long chat with Richard about this and that, accompanied by some choice malts.
Breakfast was good with varied choices, buffet style.
All in all a memorable experience.

“Great food and traditional comfort”

We had a great stay here - it is old fashioned comfort in deep chairs behind think walls and accompanied by excellent food - the menu changed every day and was fresh delicious and imaginative and frustrating. Frustarting because there were more things I wanted to eat than meal times! We were made very welcome and I'm sure we'll be back. If I had an area I'd like to change then I'd have agree with another review which said the wine was a touch expensive. Nonetheless a good list and I imagine that so far out of the way nothing comes cheap.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

Perhaps we should have read some of the previous reviews more carefully. It was like going back to the '70s or '80s. To be met by a notice saying 'no check in before 3 pm' even though we were in time, is off putting. The owner was very unwelcoming, monosyllabic and no offer of tea ( previous places had made us a pot and cake too so we had begun to think this was standard). Yes the room had a view, but the furniture was very heavy and too big for the room. One bedside table could not be placed by the bed ( no space) and the enormous dressing table had the only drawers available and they were too small for anything other the scarves/ underwear etc. It didn't fit the space and made moving around the room difficult. The switches to the wall mounted bedside lights couldn't be turned off from the bed as the headboard covered them and very nearly the light too. It looked as if the furniture had been bought with none of the room measurements to hand. I don't want IKEA ( see previous review) but I do expect furniture to be functional. The shower had mould, and we had mean little shampoo sachets and soap as one would find in a lower starred place.
The cooking was also stuck in the same time warp as the hotel. As for breakfast, it is left under heatlamps ( even fried eggs) so get there early if you want any chance of it being remotely fresh. Having umpteen varieties of malt is of no consolation.
Try for the Kylesku Hotel or Mackay's rooms further north.

“A very special place”

We stayed at this hotel for four nights. All I can do is echo the positive feedback from others who have had the pleasure of staying here. The food, the ambience, the hospitality are all very special, in an extremely special location. Even the dog (Piccolo) deserves a special mention for his unique guided walk around the hotel grounds and foreshore. For anyone coming to this beautiful, remote part of the word it is must.

“Old-fashioned hotel with a certain strange formality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

Eddrachilles Hotel is in a beautiful spot, with a stunning conservatory that offers views over Badcall Bay.

Our experience with the service was mixed: The manager (who does the reception, bar and the waiter service in the restaurant) was strangely formal, always addressing us as 'ma'am' and 'sir' and had a rather aloof manner. There was also no offers to help carry luggage up the stairs when we arrived. On the other hand, when our son hurt his finger there was immediate offers of band aids and a warm smile of sympathy.

The food in the restaurant was delicious, although the wine list seemed extremely expensive.

Our beds were comfortable, but my mother's bed was less so. However, we were in the family suite, and I imagine my mother's bed was almost always used by children, rather than adults.
