“Rooms bearable, restaurant service appalling”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I (have to) stay in the Glynhill frequently for business purposes. I can generally cope with the rooms although some of them are really small and have other oddities. However the restaurant service is poor. In the Bistro there are enough staff to serve the mostly small number of guests, but how long can it take to bring the menu or serve a glass of coke? Staff prefers as much time as possible in the back of the restaurant rather than being available to diners. Quality of food is flaky. The duck I tried was very chewy.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the road and away from the location for any tribute nights.

“Nice hotel, shame about the staff!”

We stayed at the Hotel end of January before our flight out the following morning. Having had stayed at The Glynhill last summer, we decided to book again for our Winter break. Hotel was not at all busy, but our room was the size of a shoe box, looking out onto a flat roof and someone elses room to the rear of the hotel. Room ok for what we needed it for, but nothing compared to the room we had last year. Booked an early morning transfer, taxi picked us up, which we had to pay ourselves, part of the booking was free transfer to airport!! As it was a Sunday, it was only bar meals or the carvery, chose the carvery, it was ok, but as we went in at a quiet time, some meats were over cooked, dry & burnt to a crisp. Didnt have breakfast, as we left earl doors, but you could order contintel for your room. Only gripe really being about the staff, lady on reception was pleasant enough, but didn't tell us anything about the Hotel. Barman kept doing a dissapearing act, so guests were waiting at the Bar for ages. 3 men ordered food after9 and it seemed to be a problem, when the food eventually came, the chips were missing, but he went to the bar to serve other customers, before going back to the kitchen to get the rest of the order. Duty manager was the real problem, we past this man at least 6 times through the night, not once did he even break a smile, thought it was us, but having witnessed him, having to serve the bar as the bartender had went awol again, he was unfriendly and rude to 3 different customers, all whom tried to make conversation with him, it was embarassing to be honest. Customer Service.... Nil points!!!!!

Room Tip: Choose Club rooms for better value.

“Okay for price given you can leave the car while on holiday.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012 via mobile

Not terribly warm reception on arrival.

Room. Very very very warm. Clean and tidy but bulbs broken in two of the table lights. Clearly not checked

Hotel tired. Needs painted and freshened up. Bathroom tiles and edges need attention.

Hurt leg bashing into bed middle of night. No end protectors. Soar leg !!

Ask for room at back or very noisy.

Not worth the money if you could not leave car while on holiday.

“Very handy for airport and shopping”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed at the hotel on the Saturday and Sunday night in an economy room which was pretty much what would be expected for the price, it was clean and functional. We ate in the restaurant on Sunday in the Palm Court Carvery was very nice and plentiful and the breakfast was the same set up buffet style and had everything you would expect.
If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel with plenty to eat and close to airport and shopping easy to get back on motorway then you cant go much wrong with this hotel.

“Tribute Night at The Glynhill Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Although we did nott book a room, we attended the Abbamania night at the Glynhill on 6th January. The tribute band were excellent as was the disco but the food and service were appalling.

The meal was mostly cold and the poor girl trying to serve us in a silver service fashion took about five attempts to grab a chicken breast before splashing the gravy over my plate and on to the table cloth. The veg were undercooked, cauliflower almost raw. Not appretising to watch the staff pile up plates of veg and peel off the clingfilm before serving. Not what I expected from this standard of hotel.

The tablecloth on our table had holes all over the top and sides so it resembled something I would expect in a greasy spoon! When asked what we thought of the meal I told the waitress we were disappointed and mentioned the tablecloth. She appeared embarresed and said that should have been spotted when the room was being set up. She also said she would pass our comments on....obviously to someone who couldn't care less as no one approached us to discuss.

I would say dfefinately give this a miss. The Glynhill management should contact The Carlton in Prestwick to ask for advice in running party nights. We went there in December and were so impressed we have already booked for next year!
