“Dining Delight”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We spent an overnight at this lovely peaceful location and enjoyed a delicious 7 course taster menu. Superb food and relaxing atmosphere, along with very friendly hosts.
Nice large comfortable rooms with ensuite facilities. Despite a previous comment about heating we found the place warm and cozy. Much more homely than many of the bigger hotels that we have experienced but with the same high levels of service and standards of customer service. We would definitely recommend this hotel for a quiet getaway in the country with fantasic scenery all round.

Room Tip: Loch view room if available

Thanks for taking the time to write a review, and for you kind comments. I'm particularly pleased that you enjoyed our taster menu. It gives us a chance to highlight the best of Scottish produce, and this is a great time of year for local game.

“Cold, cold cold!”

We were looking forward to a warm, cosy evening, having travelled some hours in the freezing conditions in early February, but unfortunately the heating had been off for some time it seems and the whole place was literally freezing cold. We had an excellent dinner in the cold dining room, we all had to keep our jackets on and huddled over the fire in the lounge, before retiring early to bed. Unfortunately our room was still very cold and the only article of clothing I removed was my trousers. In the morning the shower was either icy cold or dribbling roasting hot, so neither of us bothered - it was still sub-zero in the bathroom. Breakfast was excellent also, but we couldn't wait to get away (to Yanns in Crieff - what a contrast!). Disappointing and so easily avoidable, I'm sure the hotel is lovely in half decent weather, but we felt very let down.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

Thanks for your kind comments on the food. I am sorry you found it cold. Had you mentioned this at the time we could have provided extra heating for the room. Although you were in the hotel on the first night we were open after our annual winter closure, the heating had been on throughout the day and night for three days, and was on day and night during your stay, with temperatures in public areas at around 23 degrees celsius. I don't understand the comments on the shower, as it is fully thermostatically adjustable.

“Attention to Detail and Quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

The owners are welcoming and helpful as are the staff at this understated gem of a hotel in possibly one of the most breathtaking locations in Scotland. We stayed for one night in a room with a magnificent view over Loch Earn and the mountains to the south. A super comfortable super king sized bed coupled with the sheer tranquility of the Hotel in the small village of St Fillans ensured a great nights sleep. The accoutrements in the room suggested the owners were not willing to compromise on quality whether it was a good quality hair dryer or decent tea bags!

As for the food, local produce and a bit of imagination made a meal worth remembering. The portions were just right - not so much that you felt stuffed but certainly couldn't have gone back for more. Pre and post dinner drinks are served in a comfortable lounge with deep leather armchairs and an open log fire... a perfect atmosphere to chat with the other guests and try some of the good selection of malt whiskies on offer. Breakfast was a treat too. Again the emphasis being on quality and not quantity.

All in all, a wonderfully relaxing place to spend a few days. The Hotel and the scenery are both truly excellent.

Room Tip: A room with a view of the Loch and mountains beyond is well worth a little extra.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review, and for your generous comments: you've managed to sum up the area and the the way we try to run the hotel very accurately, and hopefully we will see you again later in the year.

Lovely hotel run by enthusiastic owners who have worked hard to make comfortable hotel, food is excellent and beautifully presented.

Room Tip: We had the Dundern suite which had outstanding views over Lochearn.

“Still has to be one of the nicest places in Perthshire!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

We stayed here several times a few years ago and really loved it. We returned recently for a long weekend, albeit with a small amount of trepidation as we aware that the owners had changed. Thankfully we need not have worried, and in fact the changes that the Gibsons have made are all for the better. It remains a lovely and cosy hotel, in a great location, with tremendous food and a relaxed welcome.

We had a "superior loch view" room and it was great and very nicely furnished. The hotel is being gradually refurbished, and some of the bathrooms are still to be done, but ours was clean and functional, and the toiletries were nice too!

Will definitely be back again.

Norm

Thanks for taking the time to write a review, and for your kind comments. When we took over the hotel in 2009 we wanted to continue the tradition of good food and a warm welcome that the hotel has been know for for many years, so I'm pleased that you think we have succeeded in this.

In a hotel, refurbishment is always an on-going process, and as we do this we are concentrating on restoring many of the original features of the Victorian building to create a modern country house hotel in this beautiful loch-side setting.
