“Just need bit of a polish”

I stayed here in June 11, having chosen it mainly because of its location, having arrived in Edinburgh on a relatively late flif´ght and wanting to get a little bit towards the hightlands that eb´vening without having too long of a drive. The reviews were so mixed that I decided it was worth a risk and was not dissapointed. While it is true that parts of the hotel are a bit on the shabby side, the room was clean and comfortable, and with a little attention to detail, could be very nice indeed. We enjoyed a very nice meal in the restaurant, good food and extremely pleasant staff. All in all I would say that it was the helpful and cheery staff which much outweighed the material shortcomings of the hotel.

Room Tip: Our room was facing the road and car park, but there is so little traffic that that was absolutely n...

Went to the Bein Inn for a Birthday Celebration, the meal was superb, and the Staff were second to none, the friendliness of all staff was terrific, and the roaring Fire in the lounge area was a treat on the cold night we were there, coupled with a nice atmosphere we thoroughly enjoyed the experience

“Thrilled with the whole experience of staying at the Bein Inn Hotel”

Well, which is it? Make up your own mind reviewers.

I stayed at this Hotel a week ago and was very impressed with the accomodation, Staff and the excellent food.

While on the Internet tonight, I googled the Bein Inn and was confused and angered by the reviews on this website. Many reviews are excellent and some others are Less so.

My feeling is this Hotel must be getting abused by its competitors or something.

For me its like this; I believe the people who hand out the awards this Hotel holds know what they are talking about.

My stay at this hotel was a very pleasant experience. You judge for yourself.

Room Tip: Well???? Which is it???? This websites reviews are so mixed up. This Hotel has earned its awards an...

“won't be back!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

The main building looks ok at first then you realize the shabby building beside it is attached! *The long corridors to the rooms are very musty, dark & airless. The windows which I tried to open so as to have a look out were stuck closed somehow.
*The rooms are almost shabby......not too clean, the beds were clean but the walls were dirty in many places even a hole in the bathroom wall, looked like it had been punched! The net curtains are filthy as are the window surrounds, there is actually a thick line of dirt & mould caked across the inside window ledge. the curtains are haphazardly hung and do not meet in the middle. the beds are ok. the carpet could do with a good steam clean.
*The noise, boy oh boy very noisy due to the traffic, non stop drive by traffic and once early morning arrived lots of lorries & trucks, bus stop outside the window, and at 7,30 AM a Calor gas truck making a delivery with as much noise as possible. The windows are double glazed PVC set into wood, no effort to sound proof the traffic noise at all. We had a lousy disrupted sleep. We were led to believe it was quite & rural here!
*As the rooms are not too clean etc we went elsewhere to eat, got back at 10,30pm and couldn't get in. There were lights on everywhere. The front door key did not work, we knocked on the door, nobody answered, We hammered on the door & many windows front and back of building & shouted, nobody answered. My husband then remembered a fire escape which was ajar earlier, it was open so he got in came down & opened the door for us. On entering I saw a girl behind the bar counting the till & asked her if she didn't hear us.....the lack of response indicated a total lack of concern and respect for the customer. A few minutes later we encountered another member of staff & he was equally offhand. We were half an hour trying to get in!
* Then there is the issue of the unlocked fire escape door which was open at 11am and still open at 12 midnight! ......great security!
* The back of the hotel was less than clean & stank of fish & greasy oil smells! In case of fire the fire escape doors opened onto treacherous terrain, due to lack of maintenance!
*Our rooms were not serviced!
*The receptionist on duty when we arrived was less than courteous.

How on earth was an award given to this hotel only two years ago? It is awlful>

Dined at lunch and were disappointed at the high cost of the bar food and the lacking in quality. The scampi was tasteless and the chips mediocre
